I watched The First Compression for the first time the day before yesterday and loved it...then I read that the Japanese blu-ray for The Second Combustion has English subtitles?

Mighty tempting...mighty tempting indeed.

Remember how Sentai Filmworks released the first movie over here within a month of the DVD/BD coming out in Japan? I hope that happens again. I hope they don't have two separate releases for the standard edition and the director's cut that are six months apart, though. That was annoying.

But they have yet to release the second movie. I'm will wait for the dub but you got to wonder why they haven't released the second movie just yet, seeing as it did rather well for them.

From what I've heard, the Blu-Ray isn't even out in Japan yet, so Sentai can't really do anything till that happens

This will be mine...eventually. I'm waiting on Sentai to put out DVDs for this movie series though since I want to see it dubbed.

The Blu-ray Disc edition's bonus extras will include a making-of video, the footage from tie-in events (the "Ubukata Summits," the pre-opening event, and the on-stage greetings on opening day), the promotional videos, all the commercials, and audio commentaries. Bundled with the Blu-ray will be a casino-coin-shaped Micro SD card reader with card, a 60-page booklet, and a miniature version of the theatrical pamphlet.

Nice-sounding features that Sentai probably won't include considering how barebones the first movie. Not that I'm really complaining though.

Watching all those casino scenes, especially after having read the book, I was feeling bored to death all over again. Here's hoping the film version of this space-filling story arc will be faster-paced or cut more to the point. Other than that, it's cool they're able to finish the trilogy, and I'll eventually get to own all 3 movies on blu (which I have to say the first movie was surprisingly grainy for an anime blu-ray).

Nice to see that the second movie's BD/DVDs finally been dated over there after so long, so we're at least getting closer to Sentai's as well. Smile

I was wondering if it was just me who noticed how grainy First Compression was on BD. I was actually quite surprised and disappointed at the video quality, especially with the technical capabilities that are available.

I'll patiently wait for the BD versions of Second Combustion and Third Exhaust to be released by Sentai. One reason being that they include an English dub. Personally, I'm more interested in the complete versions of the movies as opposed to the theatrical versions. When I watched First Compression for the first time, I purposely chose the complete version, as it was longer. After watching it, then watching the first few minutes of the theatrical version, I'm glad I picked the complete version for the initial viewing. The complete version seemed to follow the book a little more closely, in particular during the first few minutes with the scenes involving Balot and Shell leading up to the explosion.

I'm also interested in seeing how the casino scenes play out (pardon the pun) in Second Compression and Third Exhaust. Though it took a bit of effort to get through those sections of the book, partly because I sometimes had to reread the explanation of some of the rules for a couple of the games that were played because I wasn't familiar with the games, one could tell that battles were still taking place. They weren't violent action battles, but battles of wits and the mind, and were fascinating in their own way. That the action picks up again towards the end will help to nicely finish off the story.

The grain was intentional. It's present on all versions of the film. It's not uncommon for grain to be intentionally added to anime. Some directors like the visual effect. Similar grain effects have been used on Red Garden and Golgo 13, just as two examples.

I like grain in anime where the grain is inherent, because it was shot on film. Faux grain might be a stylistic choice to make it seem more gritty and old, but I don't like it. It just comes off looking try-hard.

As mentioned, the grain is intentional, just like all the glaring/green color pallets used in much of the art.

No one word to better describe Mardock Scramble in its entirety. Very Happy

spoiler[Hey, I still enjoyed the movie and bought the BD and will buy the rest and will recommend them to certain people, but really, Mardock Scramble is kinda try-hard at times, I don't think there's any denying that.]

Looking forward to it. I wonder if it's going to get a screening at NYCC this year? I picked up the First Compression some time back. So definitely looking to pick up the second film.
