It's pointless. The sick loli-lovers out there will still get their way. They'll just be classified as criminals on their way to get it, but it's not like they care.

Me wonders how fast Dance in the Vampire Bund will release on DVD and BD in Japan with this bill in the works? Laughing

As if my respect for the man wasn't high enough.

I think you're on to something here. LOL.

That's usually one of the big underlying factors, I also agree.

So basically, we're all criminals. Because as mentioned before, your "loli" here means either using a character said to be under 18 (99% of anime) or appearing to be under 18 (how the heck does that work anyways), and simply provocative imagery.

This is bull.

THEIR JUST FLIPPIN DRAWINGS.

If their original role was to be used for pornographic reasons, then let them.

As long as their not real, it's okay.

Not to mention, the bill is also targeting characters that sound like they're under 18. That one would probably be even harder to deal with than how the character is drawn. I'd hate to be the person doing the casting and having to wonder, "Do they sound old enough?"

To those of you who are in support of the bill, please read the following carefully:

Quote:
A legislative proposal was submitted on February 24 to amend Metropolitan Tokyo's youth welfare law on child pornography to include sexually provocative, "visual depictions" of characters who sound or appear to be 18 years old or younger. In addition to clauses that restrict the depictions of "nonexistent youths," the amendment has clauses to restrict the Internet use of minors through filtering software and services in net cafés and on mobile phones.

read the underlined part very carefully, hopefully, you'll see the fundamental flaw in this.

But I seriously doubt anything gonna happen. IIRC, they tried a similar ban last year, and it reached opposition due to the whole "violation of free speech" dealy. This is simply just another way to enforce censorship under the guise of "protect the children".

Even the voices? All Japanese porn, both real and virtual, will be gone!

Seriously; if they want to protect innocent youth, a good place to start would be not having adult magazines (and the pretty much naked real women on the covers) in plain view in every single convenience store in the country. I lost count of the times I've seen a little Japanese elementary schooler in a store full of exposed boobs.

Stop protecting the virtual children in peoples' minds and start trying harder to keep real children from buying that stuff. ToLoveRu runs in Shonen Jump, widely read by elementary/middle schoolers, and it's a notch down from an adult series.

Do you hear yourselves?

If this law becomes valid that means it's the end for anime...as there are many ways to interpret

Quote:

it means there won't be any romance or ecchi anime anymore... as they all risk being sued for "sound" part.

As has already been pointed out, banning "sexually provocative" depictions of underage characters is a very nebulous and broad concept, one that goes much farther than elimination of the loli scourge that moral crusaders posting here seem to be salivating over. I'm going to assume that all these people neither own nor watch any anime with characters under the age of 18 (or that look or sound under 18) in any sort of skimpy (or no) attire, and fan service is definitely out. I mean otherwise they'd be supporting ridiculously broad legislation without even bothering to read the details or consider the consequences. Surely people of such upstanding character couldn't be that stupid.

Well, it's all rather likely moot anyway. This bill hasn't made it out of committee yet. If you paid attention to every ridiculous piece of legislation that never even makes it out of committee, whether in Japan or the US, you would have much to laugh or cry at. I suspect this bill will never make it close to becoming a law.

All they have to do is change from middle and high school girls to college girls.

In many ways this would probably help foreign markets since it would help prevent someone from accidentally acquiring something that's illegal in their country. And depending upon how it goes, it could help non-Japanese feel more comfortable about anime and help eliminate some of the stigma. Although badly implemented it could make it worse and restrict foreign imports.

If such a law was to be implemented, they would have to exclude all existing material otherwise it could make for a real headache. Just about every anime has done some bathing or bathhouse scene including InuYasha and Naruto. And it would practically wipe out the Hentai industry.
