Ok, I didn't actually know you could switch between the new art and Urushihara Satoshi's original designs. That actually makes me very interested (goes off to preorder)

I knew about it ahead of time, but when I saw the thumbnail picture of the video my though was "Oh wow, the new art isn't that bad, two of those portrait look really good!" and then I remembered...

I'm sincerely glad that you can keep Satoshi Urushihara's original artwork and character animations in this game.

I love the game series to bits and the smartphone version ain't bad but Urushihara's art was a real selling point for me. Remaking the artwork just doesn't make any sense when there was nothing wrong with the original art in the first place.

Pre-ordered!

I couldn't have said it any better myself. I love his art style, and to me it is synonymous with the title of the game. Langrisser without Urushihara's character art just feels wrong.

The game looks great though; it's cool that you can switch back and forth between the remake and the classic style so it should please hardcore purists and new players too.

True. I haven't played Langrisser, but if they ever remake any Growlancer(really, really, hope they get around to it one of these days(fingers crossed)) titles they better keep the character art, as Urushihara's is probably THE defining aspect of those games...

If you're remaking a game especially one that's 20 plus years old I would think you would update the art and the graphics not just essentially port the game to a new system. Like with Square Enix typically does with old Final Fantasies.

They did update the graphics, and it looks great.
What we're talking about was the change to Satoshi Urushihara's character designs. I knew his art long before I ever played the game, so to me his character designs are an essential part of the experience.

As far as Square Enix goes I thing it's a mixed bag. The graphics updates are usually nice, but they often come at the cost of cutting content. For example, if we look at FFIV and its direct sequel "The After Years": the port to the PSP was still 2D sprite based, but it had updated graphics and a lot more game content added. Then they came out with the 3D smartphone port. It has entirely new 3D graphics, but it dropped the extra content--it was a step forward in the graphics department, but a step backward in others. I would much rather play the PSP versions compared to the smartphone versions because I value the gameplay higher than I do the graphics. Frankly, that's what I see with each new SE release: the graphics get better and better, but everything else gets dumbed down. I understand why that trend is happening from a business perspective, but as a player I don't like it.
