Not going to lie, I got hyped when I saw Wolverine pop the claws, especially after years of being "Othered" thanks to the Fox rights issue.

Most of the stuff was either really early in development and just announcing it exists (Wolverine, Spidey), or "Do you just not know what comes after V?" (GTA V take 3). This was more to hype what's coming out eventually because the only one due out presumably in a year's time is the new God of War. In that sense, it succeeded, because we can be cynical about licenses, but then you see Wolverine pop the claws or Venom emerge from the shadows and you suddenly feel a bit less cynical about the games (It helps that Insomniac's track record so far is really good).

Spider-Man: Everyone is losing it over Venom, but he was expected. Personally, as a long time Spidey fan, I'm more excited for Kraven the Hunter.

Wolverine: Insomniac has earned enough goodwill and trust at this point that the announcement alone is enough to get people hype, myself included. Only question is how will the gameplay be unique to Wolverine?

Project Eve: Looks really cool and some of those visuals were pretty insane. But, I was getting some Astral Chain vibes, in the sense that I hope this game isn't a kitchen sink of influences that ultimately weigh it down, particularly when it comes to the story.

GOW Ragnarok: Most exciting part of this reveal for me wasn't anything in the trailer itself, but the confirmation that this "Norse Saga" will be a duology. Comforting to know that all the epic-ness isn't going to end on another cliffhanger. Maybe for the next entry they will take on the Egyptian pantheon.

Overall I was quite pleased with the Sony Showcase, but my expectations were low to none so I was primed to be surprised.

A remake of the much-loved Knights of the Old Republic, to be precise. No real details or anything, because all they gotta say is “KOTOR Remake” to get fans salivating.

With good reason. The Old Republic era material is some of the best to come out. So yes, I am salivating indeed. A current gen remake of KOTOR and KOTOR 2 would be amazing. What would be even more amazing is if Disney got off their flippin high horses and just made previous Old Republic era stuff canon in their new timeline. They already took decades of books and said "screw these" with the "expanded" universe stuff. They could at least make previous Old Republic stuff canon as it would've affect their current wonderful timeline.

Back on topic, KOTOR remake is good. If they re-do the VA work they need the original cast back if they can get them.

If they do it’s going to be in awkward spot since the comics have revealed Kratos has already had run-ins with some of the pantheon. Not to mention the what is apparently supposed to happen to Kratos as foretold in the last game’s ending.

KOTOR 2's developer is Obsidian

The Wolverine announcement certainly means a lot after Marvel spent the last several years downplaying the X-Men.

So? It's not like they own the rights to it; Disney can just get Aspyr remake that one too. And considering how much had been cut due to the holiday rush (as well as the bugginess) it's an opportunity for a remake to be better than the original.

Anyway, Sony's "directs" continuing to have lackluster presentation aside, there were some interesting moments, like hearing Tony Todd as Venom. Wolverine interests me because I envision more of a Yakuza-type game. No swinging around, maybe concentrate the sandbox and have Wolvie get into some bone-crunching brawls. Also, Steven Blum or we riot.

Speaking of Marvel, 2K showed off Midnight Suns gameplay earlier this week. Interesting idea with the cards, but that's always a tricky system to balance. Nintendo also gave another helping of Metroid Dread: https://metroid.nintendo.com/news/metroid-dread-report-vol-7/

Oh, and the Epic v Apple suit decision came down. Epic lost most counts....except for the the one they really cared about. Not good for Apple.

I just hope that Gran Turismo 7 brings back a full-fledged single-player career mode and that we're not forced online just to play single-player. (I don't buy always online games for "games preservation" reasons since I don't want to spend money on a game that will be unplayable once the servers are turned off.)

Alan Wake remaster is great in the sense that it's getting Alan Wake back in the limelight, even if remasters don't move my needle much as a rule. But c'moooooooon Remedy make a sequel happen.

I'm generally wary of remakes of classic, beloved titles since they always end up inferior versions to the original, but the fact EA and Bioware don't seem to be involved with the KOTOR remake seem like a step in the right direction given their current output and level of quality. I have no real knowledge of Aspyr Media themselves, but still, if Disney try to change a lot of stuff to make it fit in current canon it's certainly not going to go well. I also have to imagine it won't be a turn-based, D&D 3e style of game so hopefully it's still an RPG and not just an action game.

LucasArts gave Obsidian only 14 months to do KOTOR 2, so it was released unfinished. The unused extra assets and concepts remain in Obsidian. That's like Silmarillion without Tolkien

Yeah, from some accounts, both parties lost - Epic can stand to lose hundreds of millions, Apple billions

There's also the recent South Korea law ruling - Apple and Google must allow developers to use other payment systems

And even Japan's Fair Trade Commission got Apple concedes to let "reader" apps like Netflix, Spotify, and Kindle link to the web to sign up

It would not be hard to get the assets from Obsidian, Disney has that legal right. Furthermore, it would be more like Batman without a problematic schmuck writing (looking at you, Avellone!) which is probably something that would need to happen with a KOTOR2 remake regardless of assets

Remakes without their original creators and writers are doomed to fail.

The main reason REmake stands out as being one of the only good remakes is they got all the original staff back on board and managed to make a genuinely better game than the original

Resident Evil 2, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Metroid: Samus Returns would all like to have a word with you. Heck, if we want to extend it to other mediums stuff like The Fly and John Carpenter's The Thing had no original creators around and blew their predecessors out of the water. Sometimes remakes are better without the original creators due to lack of baggage because sometimes the "creators" try to fix stuff that never needed fixing. Critical distance is often good

Disney has the rights to the used assets and concepts, but not necessarily the unused ones. After all, typically not every asset and concept make it to a delivered game, and game developers are known to reuse those ideas that fell by the wayside "paraphrased" into a new game with a different rightsholder because the previous rightsholder doesn't own them
