Same day this was announced, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters was announced to have been the most successful drama ever on Apple TV. Godzilla is cleaning up this holiday season.

The Creator costs 80 mil to get a ballpark number and Toho will see maybe half of the theatrical earnings in their bank account. Let´s say 40 mil in the bank before home media (still alive in Japan) + streaming. The film cost less than 15 mil to make and there was no costly promo tour to finance either. Shin Godzilla cost 7 mil and made 78 mil so we have a very close repeat of 2016.
All in all, these are horror film profits. Talk to Me cost 9 mil and made 92 mil and Saw X cost 13 mil and made 111 mil to name contemporary successes. I am not arguing against GM1 but none of the Big 5 studios (soon maybe 4?) could survive on such margins so they won´t learn a single lesson. Streaming is its own thing but Netflix is bigger than some of the Big 5 and is already in the Kaiju/Cool Japan business. Smaller destructors now learned on the other hand that Japanese films with an established fanbase, anime too, can be worthy of a wider release. I can live with that!

It being called "Godzilla Minus One Minus Color" is hilarious. Will watch again in Minus Color.

It just got released here in the UK last week and have went to see it twice. I'm just back from the second viewing and still buzzing. I just wanted to say how grateful I am of having the chance of seeing it on the big screen.

Just to pick up on Streaming services. The business model they have leading is not sustainable hence the price rises, introduction of advertising and less content being generated so quickly.
They aren't going away but the compelling reason for solely using them isn't as strong now. If movie companies can produce stuff as compelling as GM1 they can entice people back into the cinema so they can experience an 'event' rather than just vegging in front of the TV.
