Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen Manga About French Escorts Inspires Beauty Items

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Moyoco Anno's Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen manga recounts the life of Colette, a prostitute in an early 20th century French brothel. There, she makes men's dreams a reality with her coworkers Ivy and Mignon but can't help but imagine a life with her lover Leon. Leon, on the other hand, sees Colette as little more than a money source. This is the tale Anno weaves about women in love whose job it is to make love.

It's this blend of romantic tragedy and each individual character's attributes that inspired a new beauty product line. The collaboration includes three body serums named after the characters.

"Colette" is scented with geraniums and is meant to applied to the upper arms and abdomen for a "slimming effect."

"Ivy" has an "eros blend" and is meant to applied to a woman's legs.

"Mignon" is scented with jasmine and is meant to be applied to the low neckline and bust.

The serums are sold in a set for 10,692 yen (US$95). Pre-orders are accepted until March 1. The items will also go on sale at Beauty Apothecary in the Isetan Shinjuku Tokyo department store on March 8 followed by other Isetan locations in mid-March. Customers will also receive a five-piece postcard set of images from the manga with their purchase.

Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen was previously adapted into an animated short as part of Hideaki Anno's Japan Animator Expo project. The manga is available in English on Crunchyroll. The manga's first compiled volume went on sale in Japan on October 8, 2015.
