'Kemono Friends' Tops 2017's Most-Tweeted Buzzword Nominee List
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Social media analysis company Hotto Link is researching this year's nominees for the annual Ryūkōgo Taishō buzzword awards. The company announced on Tuesday that its research found that "Kemono Friends" was the most-tweeted among the nominated words this year.
Hotto Link used a 10% Twitter sample for its analysis. "Kemono Friends" beat out the #2 buzzword, "Enjō ◯◯," by a margin of about 190,000 Tweets.
The company posted a graph showing the change in the number of "Kemono Friends" Tweets from January 1 to November 18. The largest spike on the graph appears to mark the premiere of the anime's final episode on March 28. Another notable peak on the chart marks when the anime's director TATSUKI reported on September 25 that, per a notification from publishing and production company Kadokawa, he is no longer working on the Kemono Friends project.
The only other otaku-related term on the Ryūkōgo Taishō contest's list of 30 nominees is "Touken Ranbu." The title of the popular smartphone game and franchise ranked at #4 on the list of most-tweeted nominated buzzwords.
Here are the top 10 most-tweeted words according to Hotto Link's research on the buzzword nominees:
- Kemono Friends (349,552 Tweets)
- Enjō ◯◯ (159,782 Tweets)
- YouTuber (123,600 Tweets)
- Touken Ranbu (116,457 Tweets)
- ◯◯ First (106,354 Tweets)

- Kyōbōzai (36,415 Tweets)
- Hand Spinner (34,223 Tweets)
- J-Alert (31,526 Tweets)

The Ryūkōgo Taishō buzzword contest will announce its top 10 buzzwords for 2017 on December 1.
"Kemono Friends" is also a candidate term for AbemaTV's "Net Ryūkōgo Anime Ryūkōgo Taishō 2017" (Net Buzzwords Anime Buzzword Grand Prix 2017) contest this year.
