Africa no Salaryman Manga Gets Ridiculous Live-Action Ads

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Gamu's Africa no Salaryman (African Office Worker) manga is ridiculous enough. The story stars a lion, toucan, and lizard decked out in business suits going about the every day lives of white collar workers. Well, as "every day" as it can be when you're a literal animal from the African savanna. The manga was adapted into a short-form anime on Production I.G's 'Vertical Anime' phone app last year.

As off the wall as the manga and anime sound, recent commercials to promote the release of the third manga volume manage to top it. The staff hired the aptly named comedian Lion Ōnishi, who wears a lion headpiece as part of his act, to star in the ads. Ōnishi plays the role of the Lion from the manga, talks to both a toucan and a lizard, albeit as painted faces on traditional fans, and tries his best to sing.

The third volume of Africa no Salaryman goes on sale on January 27. The manga can be read in Japanese for free on pixiv.
