Well, Katrielle's Detective Mysteries has a basset hound named Sherlo (his nose is only as good as a human's, though).
He's obviously based on Toby from the Sherlock Holmes novels.
I also think Patrasche from A Dog of Flanders should get a mention.

What about Mai's dogs from My Ordinary Life? They were just as cute (And as trolling) as their mistress.

All he does is eat and sleep. He's the anime version of Garfield.

The dog from the anime/manga series "Gokusen" is an Tosa Inu (Japanese Mastiff). These are the largest Japanese dog breeds. Also, don't forget Pakkun from "Naruto".

After all these years, I still recall Guri from Mahoromatic. A dog so cute that it could sit on the head of a black panther/combat android and get away with it.

What's with the weird phonetic spellings in this article? Did the editor miss them?
Also, a slight point of correction on Guts' breed - he's actually meant to be a boxer, as IIRC the director stated during the last episode premier event, and I quote, "That's why he wears a hooded sweatshirt."
