Anyone would clean up there act if it meant the owners of said site making a load of money themselves.

It's probably more profitable for them to present these series in this manner. No replication cost and a world-wide audience. It may also be a prelude to a DVD release, or it shouldn't be ruled out completely anyway. I'm glad Crunchyroll has cleaned up their act, in a sense.

Yeah, considering that they used to stream some of Toei's series without their permission. Rolling Eyes

Seriously Toei, this was quite a stupid move. There won't be much revenue because most likely Crunchyroll will keep most of the money.

On a side note, I heard several months ago that Toei licensed Dragon Quest: Dai No Daibokuen (Dai's Big Adventure), what is the status of that?

Crunchyroll is nothing than a money pit to the owner.

I wish they'd use Hulu. The picture quality is way better.

Any Canadians here? I watched Fist of the North Star and Slam Dunk on Crunchyroll just fine.

What makes you think Crunchyroll will keep most of the money?

Canada is DVD R1, so that's not surprising. I think Canada is in the same Blu-Ray region as the U.S. too so rights-wise, no problems there either. It is everyone else that will have a problem.

I don't know why am I reading all these whines, but to me Toei took leap of faith to post their classic popular titles on Crunchyroll. Toei is known for their conservative business practice.

Sites like Hulu don't work here. Many region protected sites don't work for us, although I didn't check out Crunchyroll.

EDIT: funny, with Digimon subs, I was told that they used the dub terms in the subs but it still seems fine (although I only watched a bit to see what the names were going to be). I assume they use 'Digidestined' when they say 'chosen children' in the dub.

Now, where ARE my boxsets???

Be that as it may, other services in the U.S. such as Toonami Jetstream and Hulu had Canada region locked out. So, seeing these titles on Crunchyroll was a nice surprise to me. Smile

Agreed. Sure, Toei isn't popular with their practices but at the very least they're trying again to promote their properties rather than sitting on them and saying that nobody wants to watch them. I would be absolutely ecstatic if they put Mazinger Z and Kinnikuman on CR in the future. Very Happy

Toei can get stuffed for thier nonsence with the regionblocking.

But it's not as if this is the only sin they've ever afrounted on anime fans.

Oh, for goodness' sake. Yeah, Crunchyroll (I like to imagine it as an old-fashioned cartoon villain with a goatee) will keep most of the money while cackling to itself, bleeding poor Toei until it fades away.

Anyway, boo for region blocking, but yay for subtitles (if they're really subbed). I hope less and less dubbed anime will be streamed. I don't have anything against dubs but if companies really want to reach an international audience then English language dubs are not the way to go.

Crunchyroll is just Napster 2. Some guys get rich ripping off other peoples work and are then legitamised by the industry. Doesn't make me feel particularly well disposed towards either party.

PIRACY! IS! A! CRIME!
...but you can become rich and successful being a pirate.

Kinda contradictory, isn't it?

Well, this is good news for the fans of these shows, I guess. I suppose it's time for me to just get used to Crunchyroll, but I wish they'd just become totally legitimate. I guess they have to carry the fanbase over and such. . . .

But. . .I want my Leiji Matsumoto! I've been waiting for that announcement ever since that Galaxy Express 999 graphic got leaked a while back. C'mon, Toei! It's at least as unmarketable as the other stuff you're offering. Razz
