Well, thanks for letting me know when I am allowed to express my opinion and when I don't have the right! You sure are helpful and informative. I was kind of unsure there for a second Rolling Eyes

You are as entitled to express a well-reasoned opinion as anyone else. However, that is not the case here. You are posting idiocy, and getting in a huff when people call you out on it. In short, you are breaking the forum rules. If you keep this up, you will be benched.

The thing is, Unit mostly didn't complain about the quality of the series, he complained about the content. The closest he came to impugning the quality was with one comment calling it shallow (which it is), and another calling it tasteless, which is as much related to the nature of the content as the presentation of it.

"Mostly" nothing, he tried to compare it to shows he can't compare it to without having seen it, and then tried to run away from his original statement with separate arguments and sarcasm. It's that original assertion that bothers me here. Comparing Mnemosyne to ultra-violent OVAs like MD Geist and films like Hostel based on the fact that it has sex and violence and a torture scene is like comparing Cardcaptor Sakura to Patlabor because they both have girls in them, and to Duel Masters because they both have cards in them. Would you take those kinds of comparisons seriously from someone who hasn't even seen the show?

No, that is not an accurate analogy. Unit's comparison's are significantly more valid than your example of a straw man comparison, because the parallel of all titles containing the similarity was the point; those shows contain lots of violence and/or sex, and that is unappealing to lots of people. Again, a person doesn't have to see a show if it is advertised emphasizing the particular trait they are complaining about. I don't have to watch Epic Movie or Date Movie to know they feature toilet humor and "parody" popular movies.

So the argument was that the show is so bad that it's funny?

No, that's a trap statement where you're reorganizing words to fit your own opinion of the show trying to get me, a supporter of the show to admit I thought it was bad when I did't. Razz

The correct statement is that it's so outrageous and offensive it's funny and becomes enjoyable. The same reason Denis Leary and Cris Rock have a successful career as comedians.

Except it was obviously never the intention of the writers of the show that it was supposed to be funny, thus they failed on some level.

But it was enjoyable so it doesn't matter a bit to me at all either way. End of discussion unless you know the writers personally and can ask them.

Do we have to go there? You enjoyed it; I thought it was garbage, fine. That ends that. But I don't accept that just because I am not telepathic that I can't distinguish the intention of the author in the aspect of gravity versus satire. Mnemosyne is not introspective meta-fiction, it is a gritty genre piece.

No, but you do need to watch them to know to what level said "humor" is taken to, just like with Mnemosyne.

Not if people keep talking about the naked body-piercing torture scene or cannibalistic rape.

Alright, then I agree to your proposal of agreeing to disagree. This thread's degenerated too much off topic as it is.

The naked body piercing was pretty bad and I lost all interest before I managed to get to any cannibalistic rape but from the 1 and a half episodes I saw it wasn't any worse than Gantz so unless it gets much much worse I see no reason for a the shock, disgust and suspicion.

Torture porn isn't my cup of tea and I find it sick but it's not like it's nothing we haven't brought over before.

I found this show rather amusing overall, but it did seem to get worse with every episode. The first one was pretty cool, but episode 5 was easily the least entertaining of the whole series. The sex could have stayed in just fine but some of the ways it integrated into the plot were just weird.

Depends if you're James Bond or Duke Togo of Golgo 13. Laughing

Meh, doesn't really look like my kinda thing, especially after reading some of the comments on it.

This was number 5 on my top ten wish list at AOD,and this is totally my thing.I watched the series as it aired via sub in HD and loved it all the way through.I was very surprised it got licensed, and cant wait to get it.

No way Funi puts this up on Youtube, given the content, and torture scenes.

I just hope the bitrate is HIGH,and that its not crammed down as most of thier releases are...Hoping for a 3 disc release, instead of two DISC,with high 9's all the way through.

PLEASE dont dissapoint me here Funi !!! Some of us have actual tv's
that are 1080P,Some of us,-dont- watch our anime on 17" or 19" 6 bit TN displays..... Rolling Eyes Some of us,appreciate quality video.

Also, here's hoping for a Bluray release.

Doesn't Youtube have an allowance for more adult material by requiring registration and provision of DOB in order to see some videos?
