They are the definition of "violent and unreasonable". |
I just did an anime collage quiz for my teen group at our last anime club meeting, and one of the pictures I included was of Naru strangling Keitaro (almost all of them correctly identified the show, too, which I was fairly impressed with since Love Hina is older than they are).
Here's a few "honorable mentions" that I didn't see on the full list:
* Punie Tanaka, Magical Witch Punie-chan (she's so violent that even a god wants no part of fighting her)
* Tamayo Kizuki, Angelic Layer (attacking Kotaro is basically her way of saying "Good morning" to him)
* Miya-Miya, Bamboo Blade (pretty much the only reason she takes up kendo in the first place is because she likes to hit people)
* Kamiya Kaoru, Rurouni Kenshin (Oro!)

Thanks to her misunderstanding of the situation, she kinda brutally killed a bunch of innocent people.
Edit:
Just found the link to the full list, she isn't there. |
Wait, don't you mean Shion? If I recall correctly, Mion herself never killed anyone.
Then again I'm not as up to date on the franchise after the second season. However, the entire premise of the series is a disease causing people to go violently insane, and multiple people throughout the show do so, so "unreasonably" violent doesn't seem quite right.

Well, if you wanna see a reverse violent relationship, you can read or watch Gekkan Shōjo Nozaki-kun.
One of the couples has the guy constantly hitting the girl for being lazy or stupid.

Kyou Fujibayashi from Clannad and Suzuka Asahina from Suzuka would've made good candidates for this list.

Dejiko from Di Gi Charat. Always blasting everything with her eye beams whenever she gets angry.

There's also Nodame Cantabile, where Shin'ichi shows his violent side toward Megumi...

Kyou would be better because they have a hit counter for her.

You must be new to anime comedy. Here's how it work: anime writers and manga authors think people find it absolutely *hilarious* when men are physically abused by women, and when women are sexually molested by men! There's equal opportunity comedic assault all over anime, and if you only notice one type, you might be a bit biased. Although, I never really liked either, not just because it's uncomfortable, but because it's overdone and lame.
The biggest argument against it should be "it was barely funny in the 80's, it's even more grating now."

I feel like this sh*t is fortunately starting to wane in popularity, and we are now seeing a little less of it. Or at least it's being used in more interesting ways(self-referential, etc). Either that or I'm just too used to it. But yeah, not a fan. It took me a very long time to even decide I liked The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya because of how sh*tty she is as a person. I still dislike her a lot and am happy to see her on this list though.

I take it that "unreasonable violence" is to be understood with a certain degree of comedic nuance here. After all, mentions of Elfen Lied are nowhere to be found on this poll or in the ensuing discussion...

Eh, to be fair, Kondo is an actual, creepy stalker who warrants almost every punch he gets - although I do love the character overall. So Tae is a far shot from all these female characters who'll hit others for whatever stupid reason.

I can't believe Louise from Zero no Tsukaima didn't make it. She treat Saito as a pet, make him sleep in a bed of hay, whip him up daily and blow him up with Explosion just because he talk with another female character.
She is the perfect example of Unreasonably Violent Female Character

Totally agreed. She's not really unreasonably violent towards non-stalkers. Or her actual girlfriend.

I share your feelings about Haruhi, but I don't see her as a "violent" character, certainly not enough of one to rank second on this list. She woman-handles poor Mikuru shamelessly but mostly to force her into some cosplay outfit. There are many other female characters that are a lot more violent than Haruhi, like Kagame to take one example mentioned above.

I'm puzzled by Haruhi's inclusion too. You can lay many things at her feet, and she's certainly not a good person except maybe every once in a while, but she's not exactly a violent person, specifically. Selfish, dishonest, sceming and marginally sociopatic, yes, but not violent.
I'm guessing Naru Narusegawa and her ilk didn't reach the top 20 because she's from an old(er) franchise that newer fans probably doesn't know about, or might have heard about but don't particularly care to check it out.
