Before making all these love-it/hate-it speculations, I think the Umino made the cover illustration as a professional tribute to Berserk and its creator. It's not rare for any professional artist to make a tribute on their favorite titles. For example, numerous illustrators made tribute illustrations on Sakura Wars and Tales of Fantasia. It's not like Berserk is going to change its core story and design for no reason.

How in the world does character development and world-building make a seinen manga shoujo?

Anyhow, glad that Berserk is starting up again. Also a nice surprise to see Umino to be involved with an alternate cover; I'd certainly like it if Dark Horse try to secure it for their domestic release.

I know who you're referring to. That still doesn't make any sense to assign it as a shoujo element when Berserk is a freakin' fantasy story!
