She apparently had plans to move to California and live in the US (they were looking for a house together early last year) but then the earthquake happened and for whatever reason she felt as though she should not leave her home country anymore.

It's sad that it came to this but I wish them both the best.

Does anybody who's actually serious about their marriage choose to have a wedding in Las Vegas? That's a semi-serious question.

I dunno. Neither of them are american and I don't think Las Vegas has the same (negative) image abroad as in the US.
