Rarely sexualized even in fan art? Uh... no. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say "Unlike most doujinshi genres, there are actually a significant amount of non-sexualized works." That actual percent is probably more like 50/50 porn/not porn. If you haven't seen any Touhou porn you just haven't been looking very hard. As for this movie itself, well, the preview doesn't make it look like it'll have any fanservice in it. |

Saki, Mariel, Sanada-san (Ms. Sanada), Towa-chan (Towa serves as the Niwa family maid in DN Angel), Maria, now Sakuya Izayoi ... another maid role for Rie Tanaka. People have been mentioning this on Japanese and English websites, message boards, etc.

Umm, yes, I have not been looking at all for grade school pron, much less looking... diligently  . I'm well aware of Rule 34, however I tend to avoid those places if possible.
Hope I was not sounding authoritative, as I'm no expert, not having seen the games themselves, just some screenshots. I meant that... just from what I've run across in general browsing and my initially checking out Touhou when I heard of it a year or so ago, I've rarely seen even ecchi images, much less hentai, though of course the usual loli provocative poses. And saw that there are lots images out there (a function of lots of cute characters, I suppose and the over 1,000 doujin circles producing Touhou art). From that and Google/Wiki, I understand that Touhou is a huge phenomenon, so I've likely seen a tiny percentage of the art. I got the impression that it was similar to Higurashi in (only) the way that there was no hentai and very minimal ecchi in the game canon. Touhou chars all look like grade schoolers to me, so I'm betting/hoping they will avoid it in the anime (they look like they would wish to grow up to be [Cardcaptor] Sakura). Reasonable-age ecchi is fine. Pedo is not. |

This pleases me greatly, yessss...
Touhou characters look like grade-schoolers because ZUN is apparently allergic to oppai. Or maybe, he does his character designs while drunk. 
Either way, I ask only two things of this OVA: yuriyuri undertones; and well-animated danmaku (which must include, but may not be limited to, MASTER SPARK). Especially considering that the games are nothing but avoiding bullets (and screaming as you futilely get hit on your last life on stage 6), they better put some in there. But then, I'd actually settle for stupidly random cuteness, since I understand that Macross-style bullet hell barrages are pretty expensive to animate. That said, if Maikaze got Ichiro Itano to do some battle animation for them, I will swim all the way to Japan and worship at their feet.
To be fair, though, there's quite a bit of... "healthy" stuff floating around. Also, fanartists have mostly... rectified ZUN's design choices in their works even outside of ero-doujin, with the characters that have more mature personalities getting designs that look older. The fans like that too, I suppose. Regardless, most of the main cast still have a severe case of (D)FC in a lot of works. This OVA seems like no exception.
It's easy enough to get some of the games running on Wine (0.9.45 and up) if you're running GNU/Linux. If you're on a Mac, I'm not really sure, but virtualization programs could work (and dual booting most probably will). |

You should check what you're talking about before posting a comment like that. Most of the characters look like they're somewhere between 15-20 in age, though most of them are much older (like several hundred years old). Most of them just have a flat chest and wear baggy clothes. And sure there few that look young, but none of them are humans and are mostly of the ancient kind in age. The Touhou canon doesn't really have any fanservice except some Marisa's bloomers or Reimu's armpits. Most of the characters wear clothes that reveal pretty much nothing and bloomers seem to be most popular underwear. But then again the canon is not that important in Touhou considering over 400 doujinshi have been translated to english and most them being rather good and some of them amazingly good. And to join the debate of how much of touhou fan-art/doujinshi are porn. I really can't believe the rate to be as high as 50/50, if you don't count fanservicy pictures as porn. Or maybe the western fandom just doesn't like those pictures that much, because I sure haven't seen them that much. Also Touhou fans seem to be pretty creative people considering that Reitasai 5 (Touhou con) had 1086 circles participating, Comiket 74 had 885 and Kouroumu 4 (another Touhou con) had 968. Just think of the amount of doujin stuff that is created every year. If you think about those numbers and how well the official Touhou manga has been selling it isn't that hard to think that the anime could reach 10 000, if it is any good. This is coming from a person whom more than likely has never played a Touhou game, in all of it's greatness, in his/her life. Would be best if you stop knocking it for what it looks like and do some research on it and then give some insightful input as to why you think it's garbage.....as you so blantly put it. All in all, I'm very happy to finally see some sort of animated feature of Touhou for as long as ZUN has been putting out the games. This has been WAY past overdue. Hopefully with this, we'll get to see a professional production of Touhou in some future time. TOUHOU HI-JACKINGS FTW!!

As someone who got interested in Touhou via the music and then games, I will remain skeptical but curious and hopeful in regards to this animation.
And in the meantime I shall go back to listening to ROOM CLEANING STOP over and over because it's so stupidly funny. |

I mused over the idea, but I never thought there would actually be an anime based on Touhou, doujin or otherwise. On the other hand, considering all the products made based off of the series, I suppose this was the next step. I'm hoping it turns out well. I wonder what software they used to make the animation? And how much does it cost to hire seiyuu, anyway?

I recall this has been a longtime in the making. Maikaze had posted a few I believe little snippets online a long time ago, and while I'd say they're very good by doujin standards, they still have a bit of ways to go. I'd imagine a lot of still frame pans to be employed. :b

I've never played Touhou and know little about it, but I've seen plenty of nice art and it seems to have some 'interesting' characters. One would hope with a cast like that it would get released somewhere other than Comiket. It doesn't look like there's anything from Gocky Club this Winter so I suppose I could slip this into my SMJ basket if there are copies available at auction.
