What about the "Encore" sequel OVA to the first series? That one seems to be missing.

But the dub on this one is a treat, a Steven Foster dub that adds a lot of comedy without straying extremely far from the original dialogue. "You'll never beat me, because I have 2 Angel Hearts!" / "Well considering how much of a bitch you are, they should've given you a couple more!" Laughing Laughing

Too bad this franchise just went steadily downhill. Not even the yuri in season 2 could save it from being a rushed, jumbled mess with no serviceable plot whatsoever. The first season had spoiler[THE END OF THE FREAKIN' WORLD]; the second season had...a cello recital. And Zero was even more of a snorefest.

How interesting. This may be a good time for ADV Films to pull SAK 1 & 2 out of their vault and give them a keepcase re-release.

The original is going used right now on Amazon for twice what I paid ! Kind of silly it seems to stream an anime that you can't buy Confused. Based on some shelves I've seen, some people could retire on their anime collections soon...
No kidding, I'm glad I picked up the complete collection brick back in 2004 while it was still in print. I don't know about retiring via my collection, but maybe a few sold Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura collections could chip away at the credit card bills...

I find it interesting that downloading is safer than trying to go for their "free" anime membership route. Laughing

It's not supposed to be a direct sequal besides the II. And for the plot, I honestly liked the fact they went for something simple like developing her master's confidence. The melodramatic "End of the Wrold" bs is kinda old and tired anyways. If you want a plot like that there's probably 100 other options in the market place that have done it 100 times more coherently than SAK I. I think you should just judge SAK II on it's own merits, it wasn't trying to be the same anime.

That's like saying judge Dragonball Evolution on its own merits; it isn't trying to be the same anime. Laughing

SAKII isn't a remake and DB Evolution isn't an anime, so that example = fail. The idea of using the same characters again in a completely new, rebooted show is something anime has done since pretty much since forever and only n00bs wouldn't be familar with. The connections to the previous show are weak, imo (like the girl may be a descendant of earlier main character, but that's it), so yeah it should be judged on it's own merits. Just like you would judge the Slayers Movies vs. Slayers tv, or Magical Project S vs. the Tenchi Muyo OVa, Captain Harlock Tv vs. My Youth in Aracadia, Dirty Pair vs. Dirty Pair Flash, Mai Hime vs. Mai Otome, etc., etc. etc.

Why does it have to be a remake or why does it have to be the same medium? Very Happy

A remake is trying to recreate the same thing. SAKII didn't attempt that, end of story. You remind me of Alien fanboys who to this day hold James Cameron as some kind of heretic for not making a gothic horror film. If you don't like what SAKII has to offer on it's own, than fine, I could care less, although it's still one of my personal faves. However, the main point of criticism people have always used "BUT WHERES TEH ROBOT AMRAGEDEN War!!!!11" is not a real reason why it's bad to me.
