exactly: tartakovsky has a proven track record for quality products. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's a guaranteed smash hit, but I'm a lot more comfortable with this than "Pitof" directing Akira.

You've never seen 2001: A Space Odyssey or Clockwork Orange, haven't you?

That little "extra" ruined the movie. It would've been okay if it ended earlier, but Spielburg had to go "How Spielburgian" and push that little extra and ruin the movie, making very Un-Kubrick.

Not only have I seen those movies, they are two of my favorite movies of all time. While I agree that the ending might've been left out I don't think it's a "Spielbergian" ending at all: it's too dark and pessimistic. Everyone's entitled to his own opinion - you've got yours and I've got mine. On the other hand, the way you spell Spielberg's name only shows your immaturity. It's become very popular lately to attack Spielberg but the fact is - he's a great director and deserves to be respected (he was certainly respected by Kubrick).

I'm sorry. While I do feel that Spielberg is an underrated director, A.I. was definetly one of his weaker films.

i'm sorry, and i know it is your opinion, but A.I. was a hijacked piece of sh*t. if kubrick could have finished it, it would have been interesting but one can tell where he stopped and the anti-christ of cinema, spielberg, picked it up. from there on it went downhill. the only two in cinema worse than spielberg are bruckhiemer and bay. the live action version of tetsuan atomu (astro boy) is a travesty. osamu tezuka must be rolling over in his grave at the thought of hollywood getting a hold of his beloved character. it will loose all depth and feel and end up being just some hollywood action special effects bullsh*t. shame on tartovsky for picking up such a project, he has betrayed the world of animation. but at least it his him and not some bozo such as spielberg, lucas or bruckhiemer and bay.

spielberg hasn't done anything brilliant in the last ten years, let alone "dark". he is too worried with selling tickets than making a good film. also, kubrick talked with spielberg about A.I. but it has never been confirmed that he ever said that he wanted him to direct it. in fact sources close to kubrick say to the contrary.

i can count on a camel's toes how many japanese animes that have been made by the hollywood film machine that have contained anything other than special effects or big tits and ass. i would bet vital body organs in a thai casino that it will suck. hollywood is in the works of a live action akira in which the whole heart is taken out and it is going to be just some story about rival biker gangs taking on the government, as well as the possibility of a live action lupin the third in which they are talking tom cruise for the lead role. that says it all!!! so the history of hollywood fu*king up japanese anime is all the crystal ball i need to see into the obvious future that the live action tetsuan atomu(astro boy) will suck. the only hope is the fact that tartovsky(sp?) is the director. but, it is meant to be animated!!!!!!!!!!!!! fandom is not the disease, the hollwood movie making machine is.

yeah it's become popular to attack spielberg because he sucks! a director that is nothing but a tool of hollywood and proliferates that classic hollywood bullsh*t formula that just melts minds and doesn't explore anything new or challenging does not deserve any respect from me.

Please use better grammar. Please don't post more than twice in a row (only post once and edit, preferrably). Please don't use more than one punctuation mark at the end of a sentence with the sole exception of "..."

Thank you. Now with that out of the way...

"Is" a travesty? Please go back to grammar school and re-learn verb tense. It hasn't been completed or released yet, so we're a ways away from the point where you can use the term "is" in criticising it. Also, it'd be nice if you could avoid jumping to conclusions like you somehow know the future. You don't. I don't. No one does, so no one can say for certain yet how good or bad this film is going to be.

At least we agree on one point here...

Could you please try to construct something coherent out of this? Hollywood doesn't make anime, and they've barely made any actual adaptations of anime yet (the only one I personally can recall is Fist of the North Star, which indeed was pretty awful). Also, I think the Japanese anime industry has turned out more sexual exploitation on its own than Hollywood could ever hope to strive for. You do remember Ninja Scroll, right?

My memory's a bit fuzzy right now, but I'm pretty sure that was actually a majour part of the AKIRA manga, too. I'n fact, I seem to recall that much of the big, pink, puffy blob stuff took a backseat to the political aspect until the latter portion of the story.

In short, I fail to see the problem, really.

Says what "all?" That they're scouting talent? You know, you have a nasty habit of jumping to conclusions about things before they actually happen. Just because they're talking to someone about the possibility of playing a role doesn't exactly mean that person's a lock. Complain once they've actually cast someone, not when they bounce the idea off an actor to see if they're interested.

Actually, those are both seasonal allergies. Whining fanboys that jump to conclusions and complain about anything they can get their mitts on for the sake of sounding "underground" and "against the machine" are the disease.

Especially when their posts are barely-coherent grammatical nightmares.

first off, i was pretaining to the production of it, which is in the works. and yes, i can pretty much guess that it will suck.

second, i was referring to live action versions. true there hasn't been many. unfortuneatly there are many in the works.

if you fail to see the problem of pitof directing a live action version of akira, or anything else for that matter, you need better glasses.

hell, i can complain all i want. if you don't like it move to the next posting and ignore it. bottom line is tom cruise can't act his way out of a wet paper bag with holes. and there is nothing wrong with "scouring talent" as you put it as long as there is talent to scour, tom cruise has no talent for anything other than smiling and looking cool.

actually a bigger disease is the idea of people that accept what is fed to them and don't see the possibilty of a problem, that is when things are allowed to go wrong.

Especially when their posts are barely-coherent grammatical nightmares.

my grammar is fine. if you can give me examples of mistakes, on this subject, i will eat my hat.

actually, it kinda did. actually it was the only thing that spielberg has done in the last decade or so that can be considered half-way decent.

no, i think you have already proven that you just like to be heard and don't really have too much to say.

Oh goodness! Please just stop it with the 348u29082089 posts in a row! It's really quite annoying.

And by the way, in terms of grammar, you're not capitalizing correctly. There. Now please attain some slight level of maturity.

I didn't realize that I was talking with immature kids that don't know anything about movies or filmmaking. Your post (And other posts like this one really) made very strong points and provided great support for them as well. Although, I guess reading your post was a lesser waste of of time than watching "Minority Report" or "Catch Me If You Can) [/sarcasm off].
