Wow. Half a billion in 2002? That was when Dragon Ball Z was reaching its highest in popularity. (Things like Pokemon, Yi-Gi-Oh!, etc. I'm sure helped). Anime popularity is definitely dying in some sense.

Especially when $500m in 2002 dollars is worth $595m in 2009 dollars.
