Wasn't Media Blasters thinking about licensing some Shounen-Ai or Yaoi or something?

Current licenses would be the only reason to buy the company; lapsed ones could be rescued without going through them.

Precisely. If FUNimation really wanted ex-Media Blasters titles then buying the company would not help in that regard.

Said no one ever.....

Seriously, its not that big a deal Rolling Eyes I can like Rio. Does me liking it bother you or something? No one has been able to explain why the show is bad. They just say it sucks and leave it at that. I explained why I like it. It has many of the same elements as any other ecchi show, but like I said in an earlier post the execution was unique and fun. I guess it also helps that I frequent casinos occasionally. I like Kanokon and Ladies vs. butlers as well ,and even own Kanokon on dvd, but I always had a problem with the girls faces and neither of those series were really unique or had a decent story . The characters' faces in those series just look so bland even though the bodies are good. The girls in Rio ,especially Rio and Rina, are attractive from head to toe and the series was animated by Xebec who did Kanokon and Ladies Vs. Butlers as well and as for why Media Blasters licensed this, they probably did because it was cheap. Irregardless of why, I [b]will buy this.

I can answer you, as to why the show is bad. It is way to generic.
I have been watching anime since i was 8 years old, before i even knew it was anime. I might not be an expert, but I know generic crap anime, when i see it, and that was made only to advertise a pachinco machine, and gambling.

Yes Kanokon is also generic, but the ecchi scenes made up for it being generic. Kanokon was one step away from being considered hentai, and that's what made it funny to watch, especially the eat cake episode, you know what i mean if you saw it.

Maybe because I am now 40 years old, and slowly becoming a grumpy old man, My view on shows like this are getting bitter, but I still watch anime, and love it. And opinions are like butts, everyone has one, and some do stink more than others. So enjoy your Bland generic anime, by the name Rio, and I will continue to hate it....

I am not sure what good it would do to ask this, but what about this series makes it generic? I said it was quite unique and explained why I thought so, so I am not really buying the whole "it's generic" argument. Unless it has become common for anime series to focus on casinos, because I can't think of any others that do. No one has been able to explain why this series is bad or tell me one thing about it that can be found elsewhere. It just sounds like you are randomly insulting of a franchise you do not like for reasons you may not be willing to divulge and trying to stuff your opinion of what is good and bad down others throats. Generally when people bash a series without being able to explain why it is bad I just get the feeling they are doing it because of some moral reason that they don't want to unveil. A good portion of what you get nowadays is generic ,Kanokon being far more generic than this with a story focusing on high school girls chasing after some hapless male lead, and yet it seemed like Rio got singled out for being something it wasn't. Your point that it was made to advertise pachinko games is probably closer to your real reason for not liking it, though you might be surprised by how many anime franchises have pachinko game tie-ins and how many are based off of them. Rio is by no means the only one. It sounds like you have some moral issue with it.

Try practicing this line (in a feeble, old man voice) : "In my day, Anime series were great and and had depth! You kids wouldn't know good Anime even if it bit you in your rumps!" Laughing

I have no moral issues with casinos, I go to one every so often, when I am in the mood to gamble. But I would have to go back and rewatch the show, to give you a better example on why I call the show generic, and I cannot see myself going back and rewatching something that i barley made it through the first time. To me the show was generic enough that I have forgotten why i don't like it.
Other shows I didn't like for reasons other than being generic I can remember, like a crappy ending, or certain characters I feel were written in crappy, or the voice acting was horrible, or even the animation was bad. I remember those, but generic shows get so boring, you tend to forget why you dont like it, but you do know you wont like it, if you try to rewatch it.

Or maybe as I get older I am being more forgetful, either way, I am only doing this to keep the thread a live a little longer, just for fun

Have you been watching to many of the wireless receiver commercials? Laughing
But you know the sad truth is, I don't tend to tell many people I enjoy anime, Being 40, people tend to think you are a little strange. but then again, it is hard to find people close to my age that does watch anime. My 15 year old son, doesn't like anime. so I tend to watch it when nobody is home, well that and I play DayZ

Man you want to talk about nice. I'd heard about this character but didn't even know there was an anime about the character. Isn't she a property of Capcom and has some connection to Ace Attorney?

Rio really was not that bad. I put it on the same relatively harmless level as Koihime Musou. It's funny, dumb, yuri-ish in parts, the service is pretty tame, and not really offensive (to me, at least). Rio is a strong, smart, and self-confident woman and the ecchi moments do not involve her being belittled or degraded.

I agree that it's not a moneymaker though. It doesn't have the kind of graphic service that gets that crowd to open their wallets, and while I consider it a fun show otherwise, it's also not really good enough to interest more discerning buyers.

While I enjoyed the show, I'm not even sure I'd be willing to spend money on it myself - and I think that's a pretty damning statement on its prospects in and of itself.
