Since you seem to be an expert on this: How many moe fans do you personally know who masturbate to K-ON? I'd love to know, because I know zero of those people.

EDIT: And I'm not talking about the doujinshi or porno images. I'm talking about popping in the actual for-real K-ON! DVD and going to town.

Why do you care?

I can't speak for others, but this is my guess: If you're in a perceived position of authority over a community, and you know that certain comments are like poking an open sore to some members of that community, and you keep on personally poking at that sore because you think it's funny to watch the inevitable "butthurt"... it's like a teacher joining the bullies to pick on another student. Maybe the targets should in fact be less damn sensitive and learn to roll with the punches; we're no longer in grade school, after all. But that doesn't mean that, as an authority figure, it's sending a great message to the community to set that sort of example. The overall tone of the discussion on this forum is always partisan and hostile, and some may perceive this to be in following the example of those at the top. This may be why some wish the people at the top would show more restraint.

I perceive that as the bulk of it, whether it's a fully reasonable opinion or not.

Anyway, it doesn't matter because it's over now.

Only the one's who seem to be so offended that people find such a person a pathetic joke, that they will nearly burst an artery on a forum to defend it. I not an expert so I'd like to know why would anyone be so strongly offended and defensive of something like that if one isn't personally performing it? If someone can give me a logical answer that's non-political like "I will defend their right to be moe wankers because that's what living in a free society means." I'll just say "like wise for finding such people pathetic jokes", I'll do as Zac and say no more. So come on? Enlighten me.

You don't get it.

The issue is 1: That it's a joke at the expense of moe fans based on something very few, if any, of us do, and 2: That a lot of us are simply really tired of always being the butt of the joke for the rest of the anime fandom.

Well, it's a joke. It's not meant to be rooted in complete factual accuracy. Last time I made a "Yo Momma" joke, I'm pretty sure his fat, ugly Momma, didn't really sit all around the room.

And Yo Momma jokes can be pretty mean when directed at someone you actually dislike

The point behind "good natured ribbing" is the "good natured" part. If you see me on Twitter I joke around with this stuff all the time, because we all know its just in good fun.

On the other hand, not once has Zac ever indicated that he didn't actually think we're all terrible people.

I have, you've just never heard me say it because I don't coddle you, and also you don't actually read everything I say or listen to the podcast, insofar as I know.

I don't think moe fans are awful or terrible. I consider myself to be a sex-positive person and have zero problem with someone using a moe fantasy to make themselves happy. We're all human beings - everyone deserves to find some measure of happiness, and if someone finds that in the feelings that a fictional character gives them, more power to them. I don't think there's anything wrong with someone deriving satisfaction from a moe fantasy, be it emotional or sexual or whatever. It's all good. Humanity is diverse.

What amuses me greatly is the idea that even suggesting that people do pleasure themselves to this stuff sets of a firestorm of outrage and a small mob of people angrily calling for my head because "we're not all like that!" and in TimeEnforcerAnubis' case it's literally "NOT A SINGLE PERSON HAS EVER BEAT OFF TO K-ON, NOT ONCE, NOT EVER, STOP SAYING IT". It's so over-the-top and ridiculous on its face that I can't help but poke at it. The response is just so hyperbolic, especially given how obviously sexual this stuff can be, how coded it all is to give someone some measure of sexual satisfaction. Those Strike Witches girls aren't slamming their taints into the camera for the incredible amount of depth it's giving the story, they're doing it to turn you on. And that's fine. There's nothing wrong with that.

It's like the guy who insists that he's watching Queen's Blade for the amazing storytelling - in fact it all kinda boils down to that super old joke "I'm only reading Playboy for the articles!". We know you're not only reading Playboy for the articles, and thus the joke gets made, but what's harder to understand is why someone would be so hyper-defensive about the fact that they like looking at beautiful women in the nude? Can't you like both? Do you HAVE to only be watching or reading something for the intellectual thrill of a story told well? Why would you get upset if someone just makes a throwaway joke about how based on the way the ladies in the show are filmed (IE nonstop fanservice) you're probably also jerkin' it? It's a joke with a little truth in it, that's it. Nothing to get upset about, in my estimation.

Actually I knew someone at University that did read Playboy for the articles. It was in braille.

Holy shit guys way to get waaay to defensive about this. For the most part I tend to agree with Zac and if you take yourself outside of the purely emotion fanboy rage for half a second you can see were Zac and most people is coming from.

My personal tastes I tend to prefer thoughtful or challenging media but I also like some quite a few moe shows (K-On included) because they tend to be simplistic and about as unchallenging as it gets. This is great for some stress free escapism.

Is there anything wrong with watching or enjoying moe shows? No but when you start obsessing over moe then you need to take a step back and look at everything. When you feel the need to go to war over this really sit back think about how insane it is to get this upset about a character from an anime.
