You’re welcome to your interpretation of it; but I am also welcome to mine.
My assessment of Queen’s Blade is the result of watching it not only for entertainment, but also critically and analytically the same way I would any other series. With the way I watch and enjoy anime, I find the exploration of listed themes I had stated in my original post about as obvious as the fan service is on it.

Girls und Panzer also entirely revolves around a tournament, and HSDxD also has a multi-episode battle in the first season meaning the entire show was either that fight or in service of it. Tournaments aren't necessarily a problem, it's that they usually derail a show and stop its forward momentum with a tournament that isn't necessarily integral to story. Queen's Blade is about the fight for succession of the throne, that's why they all gather around, but there's still more going on than everyone sitting on the sidelines while a few characters fight like in most tournament arcs.

Those wanting another Index season, consider this: If you add the OVA and movie to the 4 TV titles, that's nearly 100 episodes and I think that the only other LN-base franchise.
The Index franchise has over 55 LN/manga volumes while Slayers has over 78 LN/manga volumes.

It has plenty of source material, and it it does well in BD sales. So episode count is rather irrelevant.
Although I don't see why people are brining up index in the first place, it has nothing to do with this anime.

I believe that the first two High School DxD anime series only covers (pun kind of intended here! ) the first four light novels. Maybe the new 13-episode series covers the fifth and sixth light novels?

Quote: | I haven't watched the second season yet, but I hear Funimation are supposedly releasing it early next year; so if that's the case it's as good as pre-ordered.
Now there's this third season in the works, which is great, I just hope this doesn't turn into an uber long marathon show with 600 episodes. |
I guess you're a strict dub watcher because High School DxD New has been out since July 2013. I couldn't get over the fact that they have Piccolo doing Ddraig sorry but no when I read the light novels I got a sense of grandeur from Ddraig and Piccolo VA doesn't cut it. I know the guy does Vegeta too but I just couldn't digest it.
Season 2, is far better than Season 1 and continues to build the mythos in the series. And, believe when I tell you that Season 3 is going to be the best season yet because it'll establish new characters, new settings and profoundly enrich the story!
More importantly High School DxD will never be water down and made into crap like other animes with 300+ episodes because it's based on light novels of which a series usually covers (up to now) 2 novels per series. Mind you, on June 20th, LN#18 is coming out so they have enough material to animate up to season 6 for now and Ishibumi-sensei (Creator) already knows how to end the series. So as of now, I see DxD with at most 72 episodes.

If anyone is interested they should start reading the LN as Series 1 covered LN#1-2, Series 2 covered LN#3-4 and Series 3 will cover LN#5-6 in order to finish the 2nd arc of the story. By the way, nobody knows how many episodes will end up been produce I expect no less than 12; However, LN#5&6 are two of the longest and most action-packed novels released so far so maybe something like 14-20 episodes would do the trick.
