If I had to introduce anime to someone who's never watched anime before, I would have Paprika as the first choice. My friends, this anime movie blew me away, even though I've been an anime fan for years. The art is absolutely gorgeous and detailed, the characters unique, and the story so well thought out and original. This anime will make newcomers understand that not all anime are kiddie cartoons or tentacle porn.
The story's main focus is on dreams, something that everyone is familar with and will understand. The music is so beautiful that the opening credits alone will suck the viewer in. During the ending credits, I had refused to leave my seat until the song reached its end. I then proceeded to rewatch the whole film.
This is the first anime I would show to a newcomer. For me, it's perfect for anyone who's interested in Japanese animation.

Okay, now that we have your picture, that image became more real than I ever cared to see it.

Damn I forgot about the collection question this week. I was torn between my super-expensive Folken cel and the ever-awesome Krauser II figure I just bought.

Before the series was licensed by Viz Media and wasn't availble in English on televison just yet, I introduced a long time friend of mine to Naruto and Negima.
Four, almost five years later, we can laugh about how over hyped Naruto has become and how Negima uses far too much fanservice despite the fact everything else is well done. The jewel of my collection is a poster with Yoshi Takamono's authograph on it. I went to Anizona 2004 with my Dad and the day after getting the cast of Full Metal Alchemist (except for Ed's authograph), somehow I was lucky enough to hear that creator of Final Fantasy was there as well.
Dvd wise though, the best I have is the orginal boxset that houses all six dvd's of Karin.

Wow, I apologize. Clearly I was wrong. Although, in my defense, I wasn't aware we were allowed to incorporate the dead. If this contest thing doesn't work out, you could probably just use that. I guess you would have to anime-ize it a bit though. Here's my recommendation:
Cower before my disturbingly effective paint skills.

WRT dubbing, that's what I've always thought too, which was why I was never a big fan outside of a few really good dubs (e.g. Black Lagoon). To me, the VA work in American cartoons sounds much better, much more natural. I really think that the matching of lip flaps and timing required, even with ADR tools, greatly hampers the performance. I know it can be overcome given enough time but without that kind of constraint I think the process would just be more efficient with better results.
In fact, a couple characteristics I've noticed with dubs that I've attributed to the this line/word timing issue are:
- lack of contractions in casual conversation
- unnatural delivery of lines requiring pausing, stuttering, hesitation

I wasn't sure if I should've submitted for the AnswerFans question or not... in the end I didn't partly because I don't know that I could pick one thing. It'd probably be one of the autograph boards, but I'm not sure which one, PROBABLY "Akane" tho.
Altho I really love two other ones too (and as a Texas Tech alumni, the fact that she is throwing the 'horns for U.T. is to my eternal shame). There's a few keychains that were beasts to get, and I love those, I also LOVE the new 20th anniversary "Oh My Goddess" art book. There's a bunch of other things I would never dream of selling, but I don't know that they would be the "crown jewel".
I know my wife was glad to get the Sailor Moon infinity art book, altho I wonder if that'd be her "crown jewel".

I didn't send in my most prized item because I was too embarassed...
It's my plushy of Vash from Trigun... So many buttons have fallen off due to me giving it so many hugs!
Anyway, my answer for the next answerfans is Kino's Journey for people I don't know that well, and well... For friends and family, I keep their interests in mind!

I'm shocked you didn't mention this in the article and so even though this is old news by now I HAVE to say this:
Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle is based off a FANTASTIC novel written by western novelist Dianna Wynne Jones. And I /think/ Miyazaki's son is going to work on an Earthsea thing too- but I'm not too sure about that. If anything it's still in the early stages.

Tales from Earthsea was released in 2007 in the west.
