No, but if they're outright cancelling a series, an actual announcement would at least keep people from freaking out over speculation.

Slayers was never cancelled. Only the first 6 volumes were ever licensed, so that it could be done as a trial run. It hasn't done as well as wished, and so the decision has been made not to license any more.

If a series WERE cancelled, it would be announced.
