My god. I would hate to be a Canadian citizen. I feel so bad for all the anime fans living in Canada.

Canned in Banada.
Just another example of a lazily written article regarding a subject in which the author was certainly not interested. |

I wonder how many Canadians, upset with the recent government elections and desiring a country that doesn't quote Wikipedia in its articles about elements of popular culture, will loudly proclaim that they are moving to the US?
Probably one or two. I laugh at them, just as I laugh at the half dozen very vocal Americans that did the same after last elections. |

Oh well, typos and misuse of statements happen. Someone should have reviewed it more thoroughly before publishing it.
They only need to correct the mistakes. At least, they are trying to educate the public which is a good thing. |

Yeah ... that was something pretty poorly written. Sometimes I wonder what my tax dollars do and now I know. I wonder if I can get hired to write crap like that and take an amazing pension when I retire. I think I can do a half decent job atleast.
I'd think that with all the money that the gov't leeches off of the citizens, they'd manage to actually do a decent job. Sometimes the smallest amount of hope is just too much already. edit: And yes, Canada is a very odd place with (il)legal weed everywhere, Quebec wanting to be its own country and the legalization of homosexual marriages. |

haha theres nothing wrong in being a Canadian citizen. Im proud of it. it not uncommon to see people read manga around Toronto.theres a big boom of anime stores in my area (though they sell bootlegs). even the local book store (chapters/indigo) has a huge selection. they even have conventions going on soon (Anime north, the canadian national expo - now called Fan expo Canada for legal reasons just to name a few).
The quote sounds right on the dot. |

I feel sorry for you Canadians. Pretty soon, the Canadian Police will be lobbying to make all animation illegal because of this poorly written article.

I'm sorry if I offended you. I was just thinking that obtaining a lot of the anime you want would be a not-so-easy task, when it should be.

So long as there's no questionable depictions of underaged individuals having sex in your favorite shows I'd imagine it wouldn't be a problem. |

I sent them a polite email listing the various quotes from their own references that contradicted their statements. I also gave them a reference to Susan Napier's book "Anime: from Akira to Howl's Moving Castle".
It will be interesting to see what I get for a reply, if anything. |

I guess Spirited Away and all of the other Miyazaki Films will be considered Porn too. But this is seriously screwed up.

Considering that the largest Anime localization company in the world (I'm assuming Viz is the largest) has their headquarters in Canada, they 'ought to get their facts straight.

I can't even understand why a anime localization company would even consider setting up a Canadian headquaters, considering all the restrictions there are there on anime itself. I mean come on, the anime stores there OPENLY and WITHOUT PUNISHMENT OR FINES sell BOOTLEG ANIME. What's wrong with this picture?
