I can't help but say that Seina looks so creepy in that picture as Lupin III.

I saw posters for this when I went to Takarazaka last month, honestly the promo shot they used here isn't as good as the poster they had up in the theatre. I wish I could see this, but I won't be in Japan next month.

To Japanese fangirls (including Rei and Makoto on Sailor Moon), theatrical male drag is the ultimate Bishounen. Shocked

Still, doesn't it have ancient roots as a response to all-male Kabuki?

I think of the same thing when reading about a live-action Peter Pan being played by a woman.

Kadmos: Peter Pan is a boy. So you need someone who can sing in a high pitch like a boy.

Wait - if they're doing a gender flipped Lupin, wouldn't Fujiko be a dude?

No, because Takarazuka Revue all are women, no men at all. So Fujiko would still be played by a women.

I'm afraid that the ANN staffer may have thought the NTT Higashi Nihon-NTT Nishi Nihon Flets Theater was the name of a theatre in Tokyo.
I conjecture he/she has not visited the Takarazuka Revue 's theatres.
Actually 'the NTT Higashi Nihon-NTT Nishi Nihon Flets Theater' is the name of a project where those telecommunication companies sponsor Takarazuka shows.
As the video in the article says, the play will be performed from January 1 to February 2 in Takarazuka City, and the theatre will be the Takarazuka Grand Theater. The play will be also performed from February 20 to March 22 at the Tokyo Takarazuka Theater in Tokyo.

It's not a genderbent play. It's just an all female group. Lupin is still male, but it'll just be a female dressed in drag.
