I think a lot of people miss the underlining message that a lot of anime and shonen have and only remember of the fights or situation of the story.
The underlining theme in a lot of shonen is to always try and never give up. These type of shonen are a good inspiration to live and remember by regardless of how common and cliche it is in this genre. |

I, for one, am glad that the crazy names aren't exclusive to Americans anymore. Here's to hoping that some Japanese parent will name their son "Ultraman".

I don't know about Japanese or Chinese, but Hao is a fairly common Vietnamese unisex name meaning "good". |

I don't know about Chinese, but in Japanese it's like naming your kid Overlord. It's a tiny bit awkward. Expect the poor kid being bullied for the rest of his life. |

This is great in my opinion, there's nothing wrong with giving your kid an unconventional name if it's meaningful, inspiring and positive, and not particularly outlandish. Convention is overrated.
It's certainly better than the parents who bestowed the relatively innocuous name "Ima" upon their daughter... when their family name is "Hogg".  You can do much, much worse if you really put your mind to it.

Having a half-Japanese boy, I remember looking at names and Hao isn't too unusual. I chose the name "Leo" or "Rio" or "璃央". Names ending in "o" are fairly common.
We were thinking Hazuki 葉月 as one choice (means "August"). Anyway, one kanji rendition could use characters like 葉緒 (Leaf-Together) and it doesn't seem too weird. Google turns up some hits on this name... |

Thing is, according to her blog she chose these kanji: 覇王 Which is quite firmly in the "WTF WHY DO YOU INFLICT THIS ON YOUR CHILD?!" category. (Even the mother admits it's a seriously weird name.) |
