Humanity and Paper Balloons is a masterpiece, but I know little about Yamanaka himself besides him dying at such a young age. I'll definitely have to check this out.

His Tange Sazen film from 1935 is superb as well. This is a very informative and well written article. The late Donald Richie would be proud.

This was a really interesting writeup. I didn't realize how much I didn't know about this era of Japanese film history.
