Good news.

I enjoyed the OVA already so looking forward to this.
Might give the manga a try in the future as well.

Very Happy Let's hope it's not a short 1-5 minute series anime. This sounds promising.

The story of the original anime DVDs revolves around a mature prisoner... released on good behavior during Japan's Showa Genroku era (1960s to early 1970s).

I understand the Showa era can be divided into 2 parts; the pre WW2 years where militaristic fervour gripped the Empire of Japan, and the post WW2 years where Japan was rebuilding itself after the war.

When the Japanese make a general reference to the Showa era, how do they differentiate between these 2 distinct parts? Or do they just use it to refer to the post WW2 years?

Depends on what kind of glasses you have on while you're watching/reading... This is not a BL manga, it's "safe" for anyone who is not into that. But the mangaka also does BL and let's just say it shows. Especially after the story moves into the second stage (not covered by the OVAs yet) and it's very difficult to not get the feeling that this is supposed to be a love story.

(For the record while I normally would have no problem with that, I'm not happy about the direction the manga takes. The focus shifts from what I found interesting to something I don't find that interesting. I wanted the story to be about Yota and rakugo, not Sukeroku and how the world revolves around him, damn it.)
