We asked photographer Colin Kelly, "What tips can you offer those getting into cosplay photography to get the shots they want?"
"The best networking will be at conventions. When you go to conventions, bring cards with your contact information on them and pass them out. When photographing, be aware of the lighting. Cosplay costumes may look great in a darkened hallway or the midday sun, but it may not translate well in the photo. Be polite. Most everyone at a convention is there to have a fun time. Communicate any ideas you have to the cosplayer, but remember they're not your model - just a person having fun in a costume. Have fun!"
Are you a cosplay photographer, or do you have a favorite cosplay photographer that you work with? Each week, we'll be featuring a different cosplay photographer, and asking them not only to share a little bit about their point of view, but also a week's worth of their favorite photos. If you know anyone who would be interested, please e-mail us at [email protected] Thanks!
