posted on by Emma Hanashiro
North American anime distributor Section23 Films announced in its February 2014 release slate on Wednesday that Maiden Japan will release the Patlabor the Mobile Police: The New Files OVA. The sixteen-episode series will ship on DVD and Blu-ray in Japanese with English subtitles on February 17, 2015.
Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers) directed the series with scripts by Kazunori Itō (Ghost in the Shell, Maison Ikkoku), original mechanical designs by Yutaka Izubuchi (RahXephon, Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack), and music by Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers, Eden of the East).
Patlabor: The New Files is a continuation of the original 47-episode series. Both series revolve around the motley crew of Japan's Section 2, Division 2, which is comprised of police officers who are well versed in both law and robotics. Members Noa Izumi and Isao Ohta pilot the giant "Labor" robots to bring down those who would use Labors to commit crimes.
Maiden Japan licensed the original Patlabor video anime series last year and released it on Blu-ray and DVD between 2013 and 2014. Central Park Media originally released the both series in North America on DVD in 2003.
