This year's 12th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is announcing four more cast members of the Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Sōma television anime on Monday.

The magazine is also announcing that the anime will run in the Animeism block on the MBS, TBS, CBC, BS-TBS channels this April, and it is unveiling a new key visual with many of the characters.

The spinoff manga Shokugeki no Soma: L'étoile will launch in the digital manga service Jump+ on February 20. Michiko Itou and Taiki Asatoki's manga will center around the "Légume Magician" Kojirō Shinomiya.

Yūto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki's original comedy manga centers on Sōma, who works with his dad at his family's restaurant. His dad is a culinary master, and he often hosts cooking battles with his father. His father then enrolls him in an elite culinary school that is very difficult to enter, and the graduation rate is only about 10 percent.

Narrator: Tōtsuki Culinary Academy. Students who graduate: Under one percent. The palace of cooking that gives birth to new chefs around the world. At this place, there was a certain tradition: Food Wars!. Food Wars! are a battle in which cooking is both a halberd and a shield.
Soma: Cooking is wasteland in which deliciousness and bad tastes exist dotted throughout infinitely. I'd like to go beyond the horizon of that desert.

Erina: I'm asking you if you're really trying to make cooking that will suit me!
Soma: Look forward to it. I'll make you say "it's delicious." With all of my cooking!
Erina: My body is... reacting!
Soma: Dinner is served.
Soma: Shokugeki no Sōma is piping hot and ready to eat!

Yoshitsugu Matsuoka will play the titular character Sōma Yukihira. The other previously announced cast members include:

The rock band ULTRATOWER will perform the opening, while the rock band Tokyo Karan Koron will perform the ending.

Yoshitomo Yonetani (Gaogaigar, Betterman) is directing the anime at J.C. Staff. Shogo Yasukawa (Terra Formars, Hyperdimension Neptunia, Invaders of the Rokujyōma!?) is in charge of the series scripts, and Tomoyuki Shitaya (Bakuman., BlazBlue Alter Memory, Hatsukoi Limited) is designing the characters. Jin Aketagawa is the sound director, and Tatsuya Katou (Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club, Medaka Box) is composing the soundtrack.

The television anime will premiere in April.

Saeki and Tsukuda launched the manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in November 2012, and Shueisha published the 10th compiled volume on November 4. Yuki Morisaki, a cosplay chef and model, also contributes to the manga, and each volume of the manga features recipes. The manga and two spinoff novel volumes have topped 5.4 million copies. The 11th manga volume will ship on March 4 with a drama CD.

North American publisher Viz Media announced plans to release the manga in November 2013, and published the second compiled manga volume in North America on October 7. The company initially decided not to add the manga to its digital Weekly Shonen Jump anthology because the series is "a little racy," but later added the manga to the anthology's lineup.
