Elex Media Licenses Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration Manga

1st volume of live-action film tie-in manga is slated for June 15

Indonesian publisher Elex Media Komputindo announced on Thursday that it has licensed Nobuhiro Watsuki's Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration (Rurouni Kenshin Cinema-ban) manga. The company will release the first volume of the manga in June 15.

The manga is a tie-in to the first live-action Rurouni Kenshin film, and revisits the original manga's first arc. The manga is set during the Meiji Restoration, and centers on Kenshin Himura, a wandering former assassin that has sworn never again to take a life. He meets Kaoru, a woman who runs a fencing dojo, who takes Kenshin in. Kenshin is soon involved in trouble when Kanryu, a weapons dealer in Edo, hires a merciless killer named Jin-e to impersonate Battōsai, Kenshin's assassin alias, to drive Kaoru out of her dojo.

Watsuki launched the series in Shueisha's Jump Square magazine in May 2012, and ended it in June 2013. Shueisha published two compiled book volumes for the manga. The first live-action film debuted in Japan in August 2012. The film was followed by two sequels in August and September 2014. All three films opened in Indonesia.

Elex Media also publishes the original manga in Indonesia. SCTV aired the television anime adaptation in 2000, and Global TV began airing the series in 2005 as well.
