DIVE!! Novels Inspire Stage Play Adaptation in September

Stage production company Office Endless opened a website on Monday to announce that a stage play adaptation of Eto Mori's youth novel series DIVE!! has been green-lit. The play will run from September 20-30 at Tokyo's Theater 1010, and on October 6 and 7 at Osaka's Morinomiya Piloti Hall. Naohiro Ise (Osomatsu-san, Jūni Taisen stage plays) is directing the stage play, and is also penning the script. The anime adaptation's production committee is credited with cooperation.

Mori (Colorful original creator, screenplay for Black Jack OAV, Black Jack The Movie) wrote the original four-volume novel series between 2000 and 2002. The series revolves around the Mizuki Diving Club (MDC), which is on the verge of closing down after having financial troubles. The club's new coach persuades the club's parent company to stay open on one condition: that the club sends one of its members to next year's Olympics as part of Japan's Olympic team.

Mori's novel series previously inspired a live-action film adaptation in 2008. Masahiro Ikeno also drew a five-volume manga adaptation in 2007-2008. The novels also inspired a television anime that premiered on Fuji TV's Noitamina block last July. The anime streamed through Amazon's now-defunct Anime Strike channel in the United States.
