Anime Spotlight - Anti-Magic Academy: The 35th Test Platoonby Anthony Foronda,
150 years since the end of the Witch Hunt War between humans and the "witches" that terrorized humans with powerful magic. At the Anti-Magic Academy, an institution that trains "heretic inquisitors" that keep tabs over the remaining threat of magic, young aspirants are training yet again. Takeru Kusanagi, whose swordsmanship skills see no rivals, is one of those students that attend the Anti-Magic Academy. However, the pinnacle of military power has shifted from swords to magic, and then to guns, making the "sword" that he wields a thing of the past. Takeru, who depressingly lacks talent for using guns, leads the 35th Test Platoon, a.k.a. the Insignificant Platoon, a collection of inferior students including him. One day, Ouka Ohtori, a previous heretic inquisitor with twilight-colored hair joins the ranks of such a platoon. Sparked by the meeting with her and her abnormal hatred of witches, the gears of destiny start to turn greatly for the 35th Platoon... "For the objective, can you do away with something important to you?" The "azure" presses a question into them. Witches, necromancers, alchemists, magical heirlooms... the "weakest" platoon face against all sorts of threats that involve the world. What will be the paths for the problematic children who each carry a "secret" on their backs...!?
The captain of the Anti-Magic Academy 35th Test Platoon - a.k.a. "Insignificant Platoon". Wielder of a "sword" which is now a weapon of the past generation, and his swordsmanship is such that nobody can best him, but his shooting and academic ability is absolute zero to the point where swordsmanship is the only thing he is good at. Good-natured and cares about his comrades, but he shows a different side that gets terribly upset when someone makes fun of "swords".
A girl who was the youngest heretic inquisitor and worked hard, but due to a certain breach of orders her license was taken away from her. She has since returned to Anti-Magic Academy which is a training institution, and she is placed in the 35th Platoon led by Takeru. Her strong sense of justice prevents her from being lenient, and she hates it when things are bent out of whack. She also has a passionate hatred for evil witches.
A member of the 35th Platoon, and serves as the sniper. Her skills at sniping are beyond average, but gets tremendously nervous and often makes unbelievable mistakes when it counts. Very serious and hard-working for anything, so has more dissatisfaction than anyone else that her platoon is ridiculed as the "Insignificant Platoon". She also has a complex against her own name, and turns beet red and gets angry if you call her by her first name.
The mood-maker of the 35th Platoon, and has superhuman intelligence beyond that of a typical genius. Within the platoon, she is in charge of gear maintenance and shows ingenious skills, but she herself only shows interest in development and customization of weapons. She hacks to gather information, conducts illegal customization of platoon members' guns, performs sexual harassment... many troublesome acts have been seen as her doings.
A witch that uses "extreme light", an ancient element of magic. A bright, carefree girl who believes that "magic exists to make people happy". Acts together with Haunted from Valhalla, and due to a certain circumstance she aids in his ploys. Afterwards, she was found at a certain incident site in an amnesiac state, and the 35th Platoon was assigned to guard her. At first, she tries to distance herself from the members of the 35th Platoon...
A girl with azure eyes, hair, wearing an azure nun's habit. The true identity is Mistilteinn, one of the Relic Eaters - weapons handed down from ancient times. She is a special magical heirloom known as the Twilight Type, and is the only sword among the Relic Eaters. She can change forms into any and every form of blade. She shows up on Takeru's deathbed, and chooses him as her host. She is usually quiet and unemotional, but actually is full of pride, and shows a jealous side if Takeru tries to use another weapon.
A magician using "despair", an ancient element of magic, and is designated as a S-class dangerous individual. A necromancer and an alchemist, a summoner and an ex-pastor, but his true beginnings are completely unknown. Absolutely loves "despair", and finds ecstasy in dropping someone into despair in the most supreme of situations, and uses that as his reason for living. A high-ranking member of Valhalla, a syndicate aiming for witches to regain ground, but acts more for his own twisted aestheticism more so than fulfilling the objectives of the syndicate.
She may look like a very young girl, but is actually 17 years old. The student council president of Anti-Magic Academy. Always with a bright smile, relaxing in a kotatsu, making her seem like a cat. However, she never panics even in the direst of emergencies, and makes decisions in a calm, collected manner, making her a trustworthy commander.
Takeru's one and only blood relative, and his dearest little sister. She is a very shy person, and her bashful speech mannerisms are almost like that of a very young girl.
The chairman of the Anti-Magic Academy, and the director of the heretic inquisitors. Always aloof and unable to grasp his thoughts. He is the only guardian for Ouka who has no family, and it was his idea to place her in the 35th Test Platoon upon her return to the academy. He also made sure Takeru and Lapis came across one another, so he seems to be acting along a certain set of ideas...? Only he knows the true meaning of his actions hidden behind his beautiful smile.
