It is correct that what is written is shin, but his name is probably written in kanji/typed in hiragana. What is being used there is called katakana, which is only used for foreigner's names, foreign words, and something akin to bold type.

Maybe they changed it for the movies and I just didn't notice, but in the show at least, Shinji is written in katakana. In fact, most if not all the characters' first names are written that way. Katakana is "supposed" to only be used in the ways you mentioned, but that's in "proper" Japanese.

I wasn't expecting the title to be a musical sign. I wonder if it will Take Anno three years to complete the final film.

It will now, because you just jinxed it. Way to go. Razz

They haven't announced the English title yet, so probably not. The You (Cannot) Something titles are not translations of the Japanese titles.

I see what they did with the title. Have to admit, I chuckled.

シン are the letters that Shinji's name starts with when typed in Japanese, correct?

That doesn't mean anything. The Japanese title of the original series is Shiseiki Evangelion (シンセイキ = Shinseiki = New Century), hence why the first two syllables are there in katakana

That's because sheet music notation was only added to Unicode recently., so it probably won't be in any computer's system fonts. In other words, you need new, special fonts to display it. Maybe apple symbols has it by now, I don't know, but PC sure as heck doesn't

That was my first guess too, but then I remembered that 3.0 is already "You Can (Not) Redo."

You Can (Not) Unsee? Razz

You can (Not) Unsee should be the title of the 4th Evangelion film. Laughing

They changed the naming on the last movie though.
The first three movies were Evangelion Shingekijouban (エヴァンゲリオン 新劇場版) whereas the new movie is Shin Evangelion Gekijouban (シンエヴァンゲリオン 劇場版). The change basically amounts to Evangelion New Film Version and New Evangelion Film Version, respectively.
I have a feeling that they're hinting that since the characters have repeated prior events, they can finally end what started with the original series and start their new lives.

My PC does, but that could be because of Firefox and the FoxLingo Add-on too which displays/translates any language.

But the most likely candidate is the kanji, 新, which means "new" and by itself, is pronounced "shin." Not by coincidence, the original title of the older series in Japan is 新世紀・エヴァンゲリオン ("Shinseiki Evangelion," or "New-Century Evangelion"). This is likely just saying the movie brings us to the end of the "new" Evangelion. If it has a deeper meaning, we don't know enough context to properly predict it yet.

At the 4th movie preview, they just called the last movie "Shin Evangerion Gekijouban". The repeat symbol isn't represented in any way.
