Episode 2:
That was fabulous and I even like that little A.I. in the second half. There are still a lot of mysteries and the pacing seemed a little bit fast so far. Still, this definitely has potential. I wasn't expecting that kiss though.

The choice of voice actors for Amara and Moko must be deliberate then.

I thought the same thing - I don't know what it is but when the saviours of the earth need to be locked up, imprisoned and essentially tortured so they stay "loyal" is a turn off for me.
I don't know what it is about Daichi but I swear something in is brain doesn't work - I don't know if he is a little slow or he is stupidly naïve to situations around him i.e. you are in a room full of important people who's job it is to defend the Earth would your first thought and action be to want to show two childhood "friends" your improved boomerang skills and try and drag them out of what would seem to be an important meeting. He annoys me more than I think he should.
I must say I love the music in the battle scenes and the animation is glorious.
I'm going to give this a few more episode then evaluate if I continue or not.

It's great to hear Hiroshi Kamiya mumbling "Daichi!" in his cute sexy voice again (like he did in Devil Survivor 2 ).
I hope for some BL. Come on show give me some!

Yeah that was really a shame, it was a really great episode outside of that, guess they need an intermediate level bad guys for the MC to fight against, it just makes no sense that he'd be hired when he's obviously awful at his job and nobody seems to want him to be there. Sigh anime logic, just like somehow fast machine gun bullet are easier to dodge that slow mech punch.
I actually rather like the MC, definitely no Renton. You know Renton would have just cried and whined about the head gear for 5-10 episode, before someone sacrificed his life to free him of it. I also definitely like that he didn't need some long sequence telling him he could summon the gun, he just did it straight away in a pretty natural and believable way.
The creep guy will probably leave the show in 2-3 episode and the fight scene should get better.

I took it as he's in a situation that he doesn't fully comprehend so he just gravitates to what's familiar to him. But it seems like he's a combination of both.

I find Renton is more of a realistic character, if I was between the ages of 14 - 16 I would be reacting in the same way, he is a child and that's how children normally react; especially if you had someone like Holland constantly making you feel inferior and like you are nothing (at least through the first 3/4 of the series.

That makes sense but I think it will take a lot of work for me to warm up to him

I kinda thought he was annoying until he pretty much went "F you and your obedience headgear crap."

Ep2 -
I'm really liking Daichi now. He realizes he's in way over his head in completely unfamilar ground so he tries to bridge the gap between himself and the people he knows. He's quick to understand the other people see the creeper as a creep too, so he basically just shoves him off.
No doubt he'll get some massive discipline smacked down on him, especially with the whole shooting the tower bit. But I for one am rooting for him. He's not a mindless "JUSTICE NO MATTER WHAT!" pilot like I was expecting. He's just trying to adapt to the impossible life he's given.
The fight was pretty good and I'm very interested in the "aliens" and what their goals are. And man that chick needs to get laid. Bad. I don't think she'll last the show's run without having a breakdown otherwise.
Oh, and I'm never watching a next episode preview for this show again.

Also someone please tell me I am not the only one who starts singing the Captain Planet theme song when seeing this show's title.

At this point I'm wondering if there actually gonna try to explain all the stupid stuff about the mech, like "why make him into many parts" and "why always bring back the tiny mech back down to earth instead of leaving it in space". I'm hoping they never actually try to because the answer would just be really dump.
Oh and one more nitpicking, you couldn't possibly hide the fight in outer space, there's thousands of telescope looking at space, giant explosion tend to be easy to spot when they happen so close to earth.

I figured the small robot had to come down for some sort of service that they couldn't do in space and the full version was just too big to keep sending up every time. I dunno, that's just a possibility. I'm fine with it if the show never actually explains anything.
Regarding the visibility of the fight - These are all estimations based on what we see in the show (and rounding up whenever needed), but assuming a gratuitous 100 meter rocket with the 15m tall robot in it, that means that the complete robot is certainly less than 1000m tall (as the mini robot turns into it's head and a bit of the chest, which provides easy comparative measurements). The alien robot is roughly twice it's size. I calculated this to about 300m tall for the alien.
Our monitoring systems don't even recognize near-Earth Objects under 1km in size. Considering this the fight might not have been as visible as expected. There's crap smashing into each other and burning up all the time and we never see it.
For that matter (and correct me if I'm wrong) but did they say nobody noticed it?
Regarding the Captain Planet theme, I don't even remember it. I thought I did but it turns out I was humming Bots Master instead.

Oh they probably wouldn't have seen the fight itself, but they would have certainly noticed the unschedule rocket going into space, then making contact with not one, not two but three huge space station. But the part that pretty much everyone with a good telescope would have notice was the huge explosion the enemy mech made after blowing up, when every telescope looking at that region of the sky suddenly register a big spike in luminosity people tend to notice and try to figure out what happened.
One of the character (the uncle?) said the project was all done in secret and it seems like the show is gonna try to keep this act up. But like I said its really nitpicking.

Epi 3
Really liking the show, but I can't shake off the feeling that's it's mostly due to the really high production value, how many absolutely average show with low production value could be lifted to pretty damn good if they had that sort of production value behind them? How many great show with low value could be better than this with those value?
It look like creepy guy is gonna stick around, sadly. He's really bringing the show down, and it's pretty obvious he won't stick around for too long, so why not kill him off right now and leaving more room for the actually pretty good rest of the cast?
Anyhow, more stuff happening, still nothing explain, but I'm kinda liking that, I'm guessing it's a 26 episode show, so they can take there time and slowly give us the info, not rush everything out the gate like another show that shall remain nameless.
