DBZ is good for what it is. An action cartoon where the characters fire lasers from their hands because they trained really hard to. It's not great, but it's not horrible by any means. Stop overcompensating.

I agree, for many fans DBZ is our gateway into anime, and i still feel a sense of nostalgia whenever i see it.

I was thinking about if they would use Kappei Yamaguchi to voice Son Goku instead of Masako Nozawa. But being a Hokuto No Ken fan who have been suffering since they took Akira Kamiya of Kenshiro i wouldn't want the DB fans to suffer something similar. Either ways they'll probably re-cast couple of the characters especially the ones whom seiyuu passed away.

Though re-casting Gohan with a different seiyuu (aka: Hiroya Ishimaru) would be a good idea IMO.

I hope you're kidding. Nozawa is legendary.

I find most of the Japanese cast acceptable, with the exception of Nozawa as Son Goku, I always felt that adult Goku should have a more masculine voice, and not sound like a 12 year old boy.

The point is that even as an adult, Goku is carefree and naive, child-like. Most people understood and accepted this years ago.

This is why I always felt like the only acceptable English dub voice for adult Goku was Peter Kalemis, because he managed to capture some of Goku's innocence.

Here, here! I agree fully! I mean, I prefer most modern shonen over DBZ because they make more of an effort to have more of a story, but DBZ is still a classic. It's kinda like Transformers, Beast Wars is FAR superior IMHO, but G1 will still have a place in my heart, faults and all.

And yeah, the series being sped up to 100 episodes would rule.

DBZ will always be a classic, if for no other reason than the amusement it inspires. Too bad Funi is in the midst of re-releasing the series when they're giving it an all new look in Japan.

You folks need to stop pretending you weren't jazzed about DBZ back in the day. Even more atuned to its flaws now, I'd still love to see it in HD, ten episodes of powering up and Freeza's inability to tell time aside.

It was fun, when I was 11.

Oh please. I'm sure you have such great taste now. Rolling Eyes If anything most of anime is kiddish. It is still entertaining if you don't think so you shouldn't even be posting in this topic.

No i am not, because no matter how good or legendary some seiyuu are they were replaced with others in many shows (like the Hokuto No ken example). While Nozawa is Son Goku no matter, i feel a different take on the character would be an interesting thing to see. But then again that would hurt many of the DB fans so i guess they decided to leave her for the role.

Now if they could just do the same thing with Hokuto no Ken, I would be happy.

Ah well, I guess FUNimation has another reason to rerelease the entire series over again.

Now I have to wait longer to purchase it, too. At one time, I had all of it, but I sold it when they started the remastered releases, then I had planned to get those when they were all released, but now, I will wait a few years until FUNimation gets this all out in the U.S. on Bluray. DVD's ok, too, I guess (to my knowledge, DVD can support 1080i (at least thats what my Supernatural DVD's are in), but I would prefer Bluray.

Well, hey, at least for you guys looking for a different take on the Dragon Ball universe. There's the live-action movie and Kappei Yamaguchi dubbing in the main role alongside Aya Hirano. Leave the HD version of the anime for the nostalgic fans somewhat disgruntled by the live action flick I say. 100 episodes without filler and high quality? I'm down. I haven't bought FUNi's "remastered" sets, so I'm excited for this.

As far as the change in seiyuus for Hokuto no Ken goes, last I checked, the change in seiyuus was only for the recent movies and the OVA. From what I understand, the movies being a different take on the franchise by showing Raoh as a more sympathetic character and the animation quality being comparable to that of a Hollywood film, the general logic was to get professional Japanese on-screen actors for the likes of Ken and Raoh. I also think Kamiya didn't really have much of an interest in reprising his role in the OVA or any of the recent video games

I hope few people bought the remastered funimation episodes. They weren't worth it.

DBZ Season One was the highest-selling anime DVD of 2007. And the subsequent sets sold pretty dang good as well...
