This should happen more often, even if the quality of the subs are average it would still increase the potential market 10 fold

Though they're not gonna increase the production run 10 fold.

I highly doubt that there'd be a tenfold increase in purchases because of English subtitles, not at Japanese prices.
And I don't think we'd be able to handle the concomitant explosion in anime productions if there was.

So, rather than high episode counts, this is just a super-niche (hardcore Jojo's fans) within a super-niche (Blu-Ray) within a super-niche (anime) |
Well, using Google to run a (poor) translation, it seems that at least BD v1 comes with a soundtrack that the DVD doesn't have...

These days it's not terribly unusual for the DVD to only come in the standard edition and only have the LE available on Blu-ray.

This is why piracy is so high. |
Piracy is due to a false sense of entitlement. Owning is a luxury. This is a huge title that will most likely have legal streaming. |
I hope they plan to stream this legally somewhere. I love Jojo, but there is now way I'm going to be lured into paying $100/disc without getting an idea of what the show will look like.
Japanese prices - if this becomes the norm for anime, my buying will probably reduce to only one or two shows a year. Max.

I'm actually quite amazed that the BDs will have English Subs. I wonder how good they will be.

I would.

Honestly, the only thing that would delay a US release is the issue surrounding music names and that's if one company is even willing to look at the license.

From what I've heard, they typically use the same companies that provide subtitles for simulcasts, so they should be adequate., so it's not a terribly big deal.

Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere has english subtitles on their blu rays and they use the Crunchyroll/Sentai translation just about word for word. The first season comes out next month dubbed on blu ray. I got the limited edition first blu ray for the second season and I was so impressed as to what you get. It's pretty expensive but in my opinion worth it for me.

If Japanese prices became the norm, I'd stop watching anime all together for the most part. I'd rewatch my old stuff, but I certainly wouldn't pay Japanese prices. I also hate digital distribution, so I wouldn't even watch new stuff on Crunchyroll.

They're extremely high. But hey, at least the dollar is now at around 100 yen compared to around 80 a year ago so importing should be a little less expensive.
