A friend of mine cospalyed as Franken Fran. She was mad that most people called her "female Stein".

I'd probably read this if the main character was at all likable or sympathetic. As Fran is, I cannot continue.

That's probably a weird thing to say, given the circumstances. But I stand by it.

Jason, Champion Red is a Shonen Magazin and not Seinen and because of that so is Franken Fran. I know it makes no sense because some of their mangas are basically porn and are cancelled early because of it and there was also hardcore gorn like Shigurui. BUT they are deemed all ages. The "porn" focused sister magazine Champion Red Ichigo is Seinen though. Akita Shotens main Seinen line is called Young Champion (home of Wolfguy) and also has a "porn" focused sister Magazien called Young Champion Retsu. I also suggest Wolf Guy for a future 1000 Mangas because that one was crazy.

I think Fran IS likable because she is always trying to do good. The problem is she does not understand that there are things far worse then death. Things that she inflicts on people just to keep them alive.

Yes, at least a couple of people recognized me.

It took me a while to get into this manga. I read the first few chapters and wasn't super impressed but at some point I went back and started reading again and got super into it. Grotesque and funny, I can't say I've really read anything else quite like it.

I really like this manga, but I think it's because I found gross imagination more fascinating rather than disgusting (see: Shintaro Kago), and when combined with Black Jack, one of my top favorite manga, it's pretty much the ultimate combination for me.

It surprised me though that Mr. Jason finally did a column on an unlicensed manga. Does this mean we can expect more unlicensed manga in the future columns, or this manga is just too idiosyncratic so it is excepted?

Starting reading this series a while back, but never finished it. This article has inspired me to pick it up again, though I think reading it in large chunks may do questionable things to me sanity.

Yah, but then you get things like the spoiler[second part of the mitosis story.] In which Fran spoiler[isn't trying to save the copies. Perhaps it was because of how unusual it was, but that story was very chilling and unsettling to me, seeing Fran have her minions brutally murder so many young girls. The fact that all the copies were utterly terrified and begged for their lives before dying certainly didn't help. And then there was that ending with the police woman.]

Yep, sanity, we had a nice thing going at one time, but I think it's best if we part ways for now.

Ah yeah, I should probably finish this. Back when I first got into it the series wasn't done yet, and I kinda lost track... Thanks for the reminder!

Anyway, one of my friends looks EXACTLY like Fran (well, as close as you can get comparing a drawing to real life, and also minus the stitches of course...), and could cosplay as her perfectly. But unfortunately she is also among the most squeamish people I have ever known and would not last through the first few pages of the manga, and has no interest cosplaying as a character she is not familiar with, despite my constant badgering.... Oh well, I'll keep trying!

I confess to reading some scanlations of this back in 2009, but I never got around to finishing it, I'd totally buy a legit copy if someone released it

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the chapter that's a homage to the movie Creepshow and involves a certain species of....insect that I have a huge phobia of and thusly that chapter scared the SYRUP out of me
