I didn't think it would happen, but it's great news. Unfortunately it's probably going to go the way of the first Hellsing adaptation because the source material isn't complete and they might have to rush things.

I don't get how something that started 6 years ago only has 4 volumes.

It all depends on the author in the end. Hellsing ended up averaging something like one tankoban volume a year, and I believe some of that came from Hirano getting distracted with other things, so this is fairly normal for him.

I quite liked the first Hellsing series and picked up the entire manga.

Never finished watching the OVAs. I agree the quality in them is better, not to mention that they adapt the whole story.

But I honestly quite liked the mood and music of the TV series over the OVAs.

I especially wished they'd kept the same musical style of a gothic-English-rock-band style with a mix of eclectic jazz rather than going for the epic operatic route. That's what gave the first series some pure style and it's how I'll always set Hellsing's mood to.

An opinion that can only be held by someone who's looked at the cover pictures and not read the work.

The main characters might be from feudal Japan, but this is ABSOLUTELY not related to time travel as you understand it.

Hmm, I'd been putting off trying out the manga due to not wanting to get stuck waiting years between volumes, but I guess I should give it a look now that there's a show coming out.
I'll just read really really slowly... Wink

Hopefully they can get this adaption right and at least try not to botch the ending when they finish the adaption. Perhaps depending upon how things go maybe it will go TV and then OVA. I'm hoping that at some point Hirano will resume Hellsing: The Dawn though.
