You know how one of the most common complaints of dubs is that the VA's are trying too hard to sound cute and it's just not natural? That's my problem with Yuri Yoshida (Mashiro) right now. I don't know a lick about Japanese or Japanese voice acting, but it just sounds like she's trying way too hard to sound like a kid. Her actual acting seems fine, but her voice just bugs me.

There is acting like a child which over time is glossed over by most audiences, and then there is acting like a stereotypical child which can be annoying over an extended period.

Regardless, I have generally gotten overly used to both styles but I can understand if an unaccustomed viewer is annoyed by the latter.

So what makes you think Mashiro and Hakuya might be spoiler[shape-shifting mythical foxes], and what does an injury have to do with it? :\

The flashback involved what appeared to be spoiler[foxes that were blacked out for reason in a shrine like house in the mountains]. If you recall, Mashiro mentioned that she spent a lot of time spoiler[living in the mountains, which I thought at the time sounded a little odd], I also though her spoiler[hair can look a little like ears and a tail]. Her being a spoiler[mysterious animal herself might have no bearing on her being afraid of aliens, after all a certain Dulahan was also afraid].

Anyway after some other mentions it appears that they are part of an old family that has a strong influence, but for some reason lives in the mountains in a place that may be shrine. The grandfather was apparently who set up marriage, and she recalled that it was her grandfather who took her into those mountain trips.

The injury thing that was mentioned is still a wildcard.

I like this idea a lot. I think I'll be disappointed if the "Unidentified" in the title is just another normal, boring human. If there is a mystical element, I wonder how long it'll be before this is revealed (or even strongly hinted) to the audience? I just feel this show needs more of a hook than "typical romcom".

I'm almost glad I'm not the only one annoyed by Mashiro's voice! Hopefully the actress will calm down after a few eps.

This already isn't a typical romcom.

There's no harem and it's from the POV of the the main girl. If you want a typical romcom then Nisekoi is there for you. Harem, male MC, a bunch of stupid misunderstandings, the whole lot.

Hell, now that I think about it, there isn't even a love triangle or other love interests as of yet for the main pairing. I've seen a ton of romcoms and the only thing like Mikakunin that I can think of in that there's no other love interests for the main pair is Mahoraba ~Heartful~ Days. This ain't a common layout at all.

Of course, if another girl or guy gets introduced to throw in a love triangle then this would lose its unique flavor rather quickly. So I'm hoping it doesn't go down that route.

Episode 3

Maybe just a joke, but the fact spoiler[mail was sent attached to an arrow and Kobeni wondering why she did not see him when supposedly mailing the letter] might lend credence to them spoiler[not being normal]. Maybe even the fact he reacted to the spoiler[analogy of her being taken away by a kite could point to being an animal], again probably just a joke and probably looking into it too hard.

For good, I would say I reacted to the cuteness at Mashiro's dancing. Can we really fault Benio for being so consumed by the cuteness. Although I had to double back that Benio was spoiler[looking a magazine that apparently sold child underwear including having pictures of models]. That sounds scandalous.

Ep3-This show is pleasant, but it doesn't have much of a plot. The show tends to drag when the jokes don't land. It also has this weird tendency to stick to continuity no matter what--an important detail in every genre *except* gag comedy, where the rule of funny should trump everything else.

The spoiler[letter attached to the arrow] was a great gag, and Mashiro's growing on me. I like how they're slowly developing Hakuya, but the pace of the show is still too slow. Maybe I'll give it another ep or 2. If the mountain siblings are mystical or supernatural, that'll be a huge selling point. But spoiler[the flashback in this episode isn't giving me much hope, as there were no foxes or other animals around]

The arrow delivered letter could point to a ninja background but I think the whole idea is that they are really country. So far from city kids that they are almost alien. Just strange, however, not extra terrestrial. The business of a kite swooping down and stealing a small animal in front of you is more a farm reference than anything else.

I don't think Mashiro has much to worry about. Hakuya is slowly winning Kobeni over in his own way.

Benio really does need to learn to take a hint. Kinda reminds me of Nyaruko a bit...

Tsk, this is why older sisters are so...

For reasons it reminds me of the dance in the ED of Kodomo no Jikan.

What got me most about that scene was how serious she was about getting the moves right and how intensely she was concentrating.

This one's been an unexpected delight for me so far in almost every aspect, and I fully agree that it's at least a bit removed from the typical romcom. I am very curious to see how far they are going to go with the turn of events at the end of episode 3 affecting the story.

Episode 4

Guess what?
My suspicions spoiler[seem to actually be right], the episode practically threw subtlety out the window and spoiler[focused on some of the things I mentioned before pointed the siblings as not being human]. Although wording seems spoiler[to point to wolves instead of foxes] that might go along the lines of such anime like spoiler[Ookami Kakushi and Wolf Children that they are the last remnants of Japan's mystical wolves].

In the episode we got recalls of spoiler[animal fur], her describing himspoiler[ like a dog that she can understand], and saying that it sounded like spoiler[he imprinted]. He showed signs of spoiler[super speed that apparently sounded very bottom heavy], and his sister hinted at spoiler[being able to manipulate people] and had her story spoiler[fell apart as she tried hard to cover her tracks].

I wonder if spoiler[I was the only one that kind of figured it out before in episode 2]? Next episode's title sounds intriguing.

I find it kind of disappointing and completely unnecessary, though I haven't seen what they're planning to do with it.
