Reality actors? Is this the best they could do with the supposed $100 million budget?

Agreed. But considering they were originally going to cast a porno actress in the role, I guess it's a step up. Or maybe not. Confused

Hey. You should say porn actress and MENSA member. I think at the time she was trying to branch into mainstream films. Plus who know who the studio had for producers back then.

Once you had Kevin Smith writing a script for Tim Buron directing Nicholas Cage as Superman. Warners spent like 60 million dollars on that film and it never got made. Though I doubt any previous attempts at a DBZ movie got that far. I just want to point out how production of a film can have many false starts with various people at the helm.

Whoever was thinking of that casting is likley long gone. This is a new group working on the film. Like I said, we have Steven Chow on as producer. That helps give me hope.

I don't know. Of course it is impossible to say at this point, but I'm pretty skeptical. I can't really see anything still resembling DragonBall/DBZ working as a live-action movie. To make it work they would probably have to change it to the point where it really is only using the name recognition for a vaguely similar concept. That might be the better option, but I really can't stand when they do that. (eg. Resident Evil) If there's no reason aside from name recognition to make it a [resident evil/dragonball/etc.] movie then they really should just make it a movie with no connection.

It seems most think this movie will not live up to its manga/anime predecessor, wether you loved or hated DB/DBZ. It probably will not. With directors like Michael Bay and Tim Story who care more about visual effects than plot or giving "true" or "long-time" fans what they want, a retelling of the story we liked in a live action venue. But instead feels more like they are just taking a franchise and characters and making medicore movies.

Which overall isnt bad, if you can go into the theater without any expectations of comparing it to the original and only want to see eye candy with little to no plot. Thats how I got through Transformers without pissing all over the place.

What will ruin this film for DB/DBZ fan and pretty much anyone who sees it will be the over Hollywood-azation of a Japanese anime. And unforunately thats the direction it looks like its headed. Justin Chattwin as Goku makes less sense than Brandon Routh as the new Superman. Whats with the new trend to cast skinny, almost effeminate men to act masculine and macho characters?

The only thing that will save it, will be a healthy balance of anime and Hollywood styles. This includes plot, visual effects and actors.

It will be based on the First Dragonball not DBZ. "His nemesis piccolo" sounds more like dragonball to me.

Thats a bad deduction because how is a 25 year old supposed to play a kid. I deffinitly think they will not base it on the original dragonball. I feel safe in saying it will be loosely based on charcters of DBZ and maybe have somthing to do with it. If I had to pick I say it's an entirely diffrent story with the same charcters. But I guess we have to wait and see.

100 million dollars on a movie as preposterous as this? Even with 500 million, will probably suck worse than Street Fighter and Michael Bay's Transformers combined. It just makes me feel bad for all the starving children that could be fed with that money that will be used to create a total flop that will probably receive 2% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Forget all your preconceived ideas about DB/Z & look at the product by the director & producer which will offer a better idea of what the finished product will be like.

The director gave me that crappy Jet Li movie where he fights his clones. Razz

DOA wasn't a great film, but it was entertaining. Aren't movies supposed to... ya'know... entertain?

DOA was a dumb concept as a game, so I don't really care what they did with it.

So how come nobody's been complaining that the Speed Racer movie will suck, yet everybody seems to think the DB/Z one will? Rolling Eyes

Speed Racer's already hokey in its original version, so my expectations are lower for it. But I'm worried DBZ will end up being another SF: The Movie or MK2.

My way of seeing things has been "It doesn't suck till I think it sucks" and Transformers definetly didn't fall under that category.

Yeah, it fell under the category of, "It sucks, but I'll force myself to be retarded so that I'll like it."

The way they transformed looked like some inbred combination of Short Circuit and T2.

Story got Silver Surfer right. It's just the rest of the film which reeked.

Exsqueeze me?!? The "TF's" in that god awful waste of film looked like they were crafted/designed/banged out by some idjit with an H.R. Giger fetish, with some elements of Mechwarrior and Mad Max thrown in for good measure. It(or rather "they", in reference to the classic TF designs) were blasphemed. And furthermore, dude....learn english. Your sentence structure leaves tons to be desired....sheesh.....stupid hollywood loving luddites.... Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

P.S.: GATSU, you da man

I have a BAD feeling about this.

I fear that Hollywood is going to seriously screw Dragonball up!
After all... if they can't make decent film adaptations of games (PC & console) then I dread to think what an American film based on an Anime would be like.

The American film industry must be really desperate if they're looking abroad for new ideas.

You say that, but I question if any studio in any country could actual make an accurate/faithful DB movie (much less a good one). To begin with the director producer ( Stephen chow) is a product of chinese cinema. Why not bash him or Chinese cinema as well? They both will undoubtedly have some kind of influence in the production of the movie <.<

Yeah, what we REALLY need is some craptacular hollywood take on a classic manga/anime, with wu-xia elements thrown in....that'll make it better...

....

I laughed.

But hey, not all reality stars have to be labeled as stars that "can't act," do they?

I 2nd Hans Zimmer. Love the guy. He also was behind the music in Blood+.

Yeah, cause having a stable of all GM cars really made the film super spectacular.

Let's also not forget Mountain Dew bot and the fact that the bots were second tier to the loads of Human Actors in the film.

I think you're just pissed off because you thought it sucked and you thought a whole bunch of other people were going to agree with you on that subject, but things didn't quite go the way you liked, all you have to do is look at the box office.
