Yeah, I watched it on Friday, and I loved the volleyball girls and their impressions of various teammates. ^^ Panzer 5 wasn't bad, either. The first-year girls were cute, but that was about it. The student council's own performance could have been a bit longer, but they at least participated in the Panzer 5 skit, too.
I'm going to miss the Ooarai sensha-do team. Anzio can't come soon enough. ;_;

OVA 6
Lol, that was worth some laughs. The morals committee being hilariously bad getting those facial expressions, the history team doing Little Women with a little too much history, just seeing them in dresses was nice, and some of that copycats. I thought the part where they mentioned time constraints was a slight breaking of the fourth wall.
Is this the end of Girls Und Panzer? *does search* Yay, there will be more, we will get to see the battle with Anchovy.

Did anyone happen to see the exclusive dub for episode one that was shown at Anime Expo 2013? If so, what was it like?

How good would you say the antagonists are in this show? Like how competent and skilled are they?

One thing I've learned from anime
NAtrual ability > Years of experience (much to my dismay)

To be fair the main characters go by the command of someone with years of experience. Instead of natural ability, it mostly comes down to outthinking the opponent and sometimes the opponent underestimates them, with a little bit of luck. The opponents in general are not made out to be hugely mean characters, there are some jerks, but chances are you may end up liking the other teams.

Liking the characters ain't an issue. I just wanna know if the other teams are competent enough to provide the protagonists with a challenge using their own skills (like not all the problems the heroes face are a result of THEM making a mistake or being mentally out of it)

They are definetly competent, their matches really come down to the wire, with enemies using tactics that are generally intelligent, likely surprising, and cause the protagonists to really consider their options. You will find references historical military moves, and even a reference to a military movie. And the protaganists are not immune to the same problems that the enemy might suffer.
I am looking forward to the last OVA which will apparently show more in depth one of their closet matches, in general the matches can be quite exciting, so yeah. You will probably want to see their first match to really get a good grasp of what their fights can be like (the continuation of the match shown in the first couple of minutes).

what's the tone of the series like? On a scale of Constant wide eyed hilarity to ruthless cynical bleakness?

Is it's tone in the same vain as stuff like Hajime no Ippo or Hikaru No Go?
Or lighter?
