Can't watch the stream since I'm not in the U.S., but what you've described sounds horrible. The Animax Asia dub was pretty good. No honorifics, but all the names and Gundam references were intact, though they did mispronounce Char Aznable's name when Keroro did a Quattro Bajeena impression.
(I especially like that they pronounced "Gundam" as gun-DAM, not gun-DUMB like the R1 dubs of the various Gundam series.) |

IMO, the test ep was ok. FUNi got it right when they decided to use Christopher Sabat as Giroro's voice, they should keep him.. Keroro's voice was ok, but I think Vic Mignogna is a better choice. Tamama's voice was also good, and so was Natsumi's.
But the rest wasn't very good IMO. First, they changed the Keronians' names to only two syllables (Keroro to Kero, Tamama to Tama, Giroro to Giro, Kululu to Kulu...). Also, what was up with that change in Natsumi's name? I know they want to try and Americanize it, but name changing usually doesn't work, especially with anime like this one. And the planet names also hneed to stay the same. I get that they want to make it unnecessarily clear that the Keronian race is basically mutated frogs, but they don't need to name their home planet "Frogulon." They're basically taking the fact that they're alien frogs and shoving it in our faces. It's almost as annoying as this kid in my English class who NEVER shuts up (even when the teacher's talking). And I'm telling you, that kid's annoying as hell. Overall, I'm glad they chose to put this up. If they hadn't, this dub could've been a disaster. |
