The description, along with Katabuchi's comment, kinda sell me on this movie. I definitely live in my head, am kind of complacent and aimless (although there are things I want to do, and it is true that I'm in a difficult situation right now). So... I think I'd be able to relate.

Doing nothing? More like behaving realistically. She belonged in a different kind of genre, not sci fi or action thriller.

Savage criticism. I can't say whether I agree with him or not since I haven't seen the film, but unless Rebuild of Evangelion 4 has some spectacular finale I don't know if he can throw stones in that glass house of his (I say this sadly, as I loved the first 2 films but the 3rd was a godforsaken mind screw).

Geez, Anno, I don't like it when female characters are boring either, but...!
I don't know what he's frustrated about, without having seen the movie, but I mean, it takes place right after WWII, she wouldn't have really had an opportunity to do much. The fact that the director was laughing about it makes me think that maybe Anno didn't say it in complete seriousness, I dunno.
I feel like every anime movie resembles eachother nowadays though, maybe that's what he's upset about.
