Listen, I am happy the animation industry or whoever has the power to green-lit anime adaptations is paying attention to BL stories, because maybe we could in the future get anime adaptations for the actual good bl mangas in the market.
But ten count??? Just...why

I mean, I know why. I know why yarichin is getting an ova/anime, I know why that other manga is getting animated, but it's completely stupid sometimes, because the sex scenes are 80% of the time cut or censored to the sky and beyond..so why...??? beats me

I'll be here waiting for the day Saezuru gets an anime, and a good anime adaptation at that. (yeah im just bitter)

That’s awesome it’s getting an anime adaptation, it’s popular among the western fans too.
The manga is beautiful, well more on R18 side.

I’m hyped for all the yaoi coming, let’s hope for a shounen-ai for the younger fans.

I love power imbalances and totally go for the rapey vibe a lot of yaoi have, but this one was just a little too over-the-top for me. I feel like it handled the mental illness aspect of the story as bad as humanly possible and was just overall pretty tacky.

I used to read this manga and I liked the art and story very much when it was about healing Shirotani's illness, even if it was ethically questionable from Kurose as a therapist, but I just couldn't deal with how abusive it became eventually. There was a scene in whichspoiler[ Kurose sexually assaults Shirotani and then says something along the lines of 'it was your fault, you were asking for it'] that was the last straw for me. I knew it was going to get an anime eventually given how hugely popular it became but I'm pretty sad that it didn't turn out to be the sweeter romance it seemed to be in its early chapters.

Whoa, unexpected! Of course I've wanted an anime adaptation, but I would prefer an uncut OVA over a TV series. Doesn't look like there's any word as to which this will be.

Yay! I am so glad this got an anime. I hope it is a tv anime. I know it is not the perfect BL. Regardless, I enjoyed reading Ten Count and will support the anime.

Yes yes yes!!! This manga really intrigued me so much so I’ve reread each English release like 5 times because the characters are just that interesting to me and I was desperate to fully understand their motives. I cannot wait for this and for the rest of the volumes to be released in the US.

Oh my god, same! I literally screamed when I saw this article!!

^ THIS. I agree with everything up there. Even if 10 count is popular, the plot has just turned into a stupid rape/abusive relationship that I stopped reading around the same time as you. It had so much promises at the beginning and the art would always be beautiful from that mangaka hence I had huge hopes but then it turned into trash, litteraly it was almost as if someone changed the whole plot saying that it had to be rape and abusive suddenly. I still can't believe this is the same author who gave us Seven Days, like how...

So why making this an anime? Why do we only have stupid rape/abusive/non-con yaoi/BL adaptated while beautiful gems are being ignored (I would die for a Saiyaku wa Boku wo Suki Sugiru adaptation)? Damn making it into an anime is not going to help viewing yaoi and in general LGBTQ+ as something normal and only increase the discrimination. Give a good BL an adaptation and it would help others seeing this genre is not something as dumb as a hentai plot, it would help getting over with the stereotypes etc.

But then as long as producers, directors etc. only care about what sales and fujoshis don't evolve or realize how those tropes/plots suck then this is all we are going to get in terms of BL/Yaoi animes.

Yeah. While I think it's perhaps disingenuous to opine that these BL titles are not representative of the genre, the fact is that better stories are definitely out there and are not being adapted. I sorta hope that with I Hear the Sunspot by Fumino Yuki's English translation an anime adaptation can become more of a possibility. But who knows...

Of the problematic titles, Yoneda's Twittering Birds Never Fly is definitely one I would have at the top of the list. The yakuza space is its own disordered world in which there's a power struggle and everyone has some amount of agency.

Or they could go the route of creating an original story like Yuri on Ice.

Yes, count me as one of the queer folks tired of BL/GL mangas with the predatory queer stereotype being the ones chosen for anime adaptations. If there was plenty of positive representation in anime then it wouldn't be a problem, but try to find a healthy relationship in BL anime? Good luck! At least there are some BL mangas as others have mentioned that avoid the negative tropes and subvert stereotypes.

sorry, but I think this is terrible news... I read this series and love it but an anime promoting it into the "mainstream" is going to reinforce the common view that yaoi is just non-con porn and fujoshis read it just to get off. even though the relationship gradually develops, all non-BL fans are going to see is a really disturbing dynamic with lots of smut because they'll drop it after a few episodes...

you meant the other way around right? I mean thats what happened to Dramatical Murder, Sekaiichi Hatsukoi and specially Togainu No Chi... These are all hardcore BL franchises but the anime toned it down, and they received backslashes instead of praises. Mainstream on the other hand has mainstream ecchi or moe fanservice but it didn't bother people as much as Yaoi bothered anyone.

This fujoshi is once again disappointed that we're only getting the rapey/abusive/problematic BL titles adapted. If anyone's interested there is this amazing article on the complex psycho-sexual themes and abusive relationship in Ten count: https://www.themarysue.com/fetishizing-disability-in-yaoi/

Like, lots of media are problematic, but fetishising disability is definitely where I draw the line and I can tell that is going to be the main form of discourse when it comes out.
