All four are labelled as Netflix Original anime.

Yeah, sure, it's not like these shows have been aired before in other media, right?

ridiculous, even Amazon and Cruchyroll have more integrity.

I know I can exaggerate this, but when it's a situation like Devilman or Hero Mask where the anime is broadcast only on Netflix, that's okay. But personally I find it very wrong a anime that were made by production committee and are broadcast months before on TV receive the "Netflix Original anime" brand.

Yeah it's a terrible outright marketing lie that some people unfortunately believe from what I've read. A true Netflix Original Anime means they went over to the animation studios with a wad of cash (figuratively), and said, "Here, make this". They'd own the IP and they'd be the licensor for the show such that Japan and US and international publishers who want to publish home media would license from Netflix. But none of that is of course true.

Even Devilman Crybaby is not a Netflix production. It's produced mainly by Aniplex and Dynamic Planning, with Aniplex publishing the blurays and holding the events, and Kodansha owning the Devilman IP.

In ANN's interview with Polygon pictures, they specifically mentioned Netflix paying them license fees for Knights of Sidonia. That is contrary to what a real "Original" anime production means. Netflix doesn't even stream the real, final version of Knights of Sidonia, which is only available from Sentai. Likewise with Violet Evergarden and many other shows.

Even when Crunchyroll and Funimation co-produces anime, they don't call it their original anime. And Amazon reserves their "orignal" moniker for something they actually produce and own.

Mary and the Witch's Flower will also be added to Netflix in Canada.

While I suspect it’s ugly CG animation and nerdy gaming theme may mean it’s not a show for everyone, in my personal opinion, Hi Score Girl is one of the best anime romantic comedies ever made. It’s deeply heartfelt, incredibly sentimental, and portrays passionate adolescents in a way that very few works of fiction are able to do successfully. And I say that despite the fact that it doesn’t even have an ending (yet - there are three more episodes coming in March 2019).

It’s just a shame that Netflix’s viewer model means that much of its target audience will probably never even see it.

If Netflix paid enough money for exclusive streaming worldwide, who cares if they consider that enough to claim it's a Netflix Original? Most of the anime Amazon has isn't streaming-exclusive to Amazon.

Can't decide if Sirius the Jaegur will be a glorious trainwreck or not...

The production committees seem to think it's okay from them to call it "original"
So i don't see what the big deal is. I'm guessing they paid a lot for that right.

Neither are most of the series on Netflix, but most of the new shows on both platforms are exclusives.

Is this Baki show a sequel to the previous Baki anime adaptations or is it a new reboot? If it's a sequel, will the Netflix stream include the previous two seasons or are those still owned by Funimation? If it's a sequel, I can imagine it it's going to be confusing to anyone who hasn't seen the previous seasons and it makes me wonder why Netflix decided to pick it up when Funimation has the previous seasons. I can't think of what was the last anime Toshiki Hirano directed but I guess it must have been the previous Baki seasons.

Netflix Exclusive would be a better brand name but I've always assumed "Netflix Original" means they have exclusive streaming rights to the show, not that they directly created it.

1. Baki is adapting the second Baki manga, New Grappler Baki, so it's a sequel to the original anime series.
2. Netflix likely won't offer the old anime, & FUNimation had long let its license to the old anime expire.
3. Netflix grabbed this show because they want content, and this series likely looked intriguing to them. As for whether if it will be welcoming to newcomers, I'd imagine it should do okay, since the manga itself goes through multiple "new" series, which is likely done to help welcome newcomers, considering how long Baki has been running for in total.
4. Toshiki Hirano didn't direct either season of the old Baki anime. In fact, Hirano hasn't directed an anime since Magic Kaitou nearly a decade ago, so him being brought in to direct Baki is really damn intriguing.

Everybody needs to watch Hi Score Girl in December. Don't let the gaming nostalgia fool you. It has an incredible romantic story built in and a surprisingly likeable cast!

I saw a random episode of Baki the last time I was in Japan while it was airing. It was a pretty entertaining fight. If the rest of the series is like that it should be worth a watch at the very least

Hirano's involvement has me curious to check it out so I'll give it a shot if it works as a stand alone series. Thanks for the info.

It´s just a shame that you watch an anime show on Netflix and instead of doing a promotion on some forums in the internet so that more people can watch these shows, you instead sit down on promoting the shows and keep complaining about the binge model. As an anime fan you can do the change, please

Wonder if it means it's viewable in any country..unlike Crunchyroll and all the anime it promoted via ANN.

Unless the license doesn't cover the Philippines then I'm out of luck..Like seven deadly sins is.
