I started playing the game a few months ago and then recently watched a few episodes of the anime before I stopped and decided I didn’t want to spoil myself too much (I’m on chapter 14 of 24) since I’ve spoiled myself some already. I really like how the game, and apparently the anime as well, doesn’t have routes. As mentioned in the review, MC works and interacts with all four guys as she progresses through the story, but there’s no One Guy that gets focused on more than the others. I like how MC holds her own, too. It’s quite refreshing, actually.

The story is also pretty intriguing and I like the mystery. It’s definitely drawn me in more than I thought it would. I went in thinking it’d be fluffy and fun and romantic, and while that’s definitely there, I’ve been surprised by how dark the story has been at times. Also while I normally don’t go for jerk characters, Victor somehow ended up being my favorite, followed by Gavin, and then Kiro (almost TOO cute) and Lucien (almost TOO mysterious) are kind of tied for me. I’ve been playing in English and am quite enjoying the dub, which is rare for me. If the anime ever gets dubbed, I’ll most likely give that version a shot too.

Also randomly, I can’t help but compare Victor and Aoyama from Stand My Heroes because they have a similar design and are both voiced by Sugita lol.

I've never been an Otome person before, but I played the game since I enjoyed their other mobile game, Love Nikki: Dress Up Queen (what is it with them and queens?). I was surprised by how much I enjoy it and have grown really attached to all of the characters. Especially Victor, consider I also hate the character trope his type falls into. The anime may not be the best adaption, since it condenses the story so tight one can barely breathe, but I did enjoy it a lot. Even MC girl was a delight to watch. Too bad she has no name. She was enough of her own character to deserve one. I do hope we get a second season with maybe a more solid budget. I remember Mappa's Twitter posts about the show kept getting bombarded with Attack on Titan fans demanding more information about that instead of this, so I hope that doesn't make them think there is no hope for this.

the anime version at least is nothing nearly as cheesy as that tagline would imply

I don't know, I almost escaped my own skin everytime Kira called the protagonist Potato chip princess, at every dramatic speech she had in the beginning of every episode before they showed that weird Red Queen theory about running to stay in place or whatever.
I never played the game but man did I get ads for it on youtube and everytime I heard "My fate... is to like you" a piece of my soul died. If lines like that don't kill you then you'll probably like this show. It looked very nice even if the guys looked exactly the same except one's blond.
Also the localizations are weird, like why did Kiro have to be Kira? Couldn't Shimon have been Simon?
Who named a minor character 'Minor' and why are they not in jail?

That one's on Lewis Carroll, I'm afraid - it's from Through the Looking-Glass. Smile

Yeah, those bothered me more and more as it went on. (And I'll also agree with "Potato Chip Princess" as being cringey!) I guess they thought Kiro sounded more masculine? There's no excuse for Minor, though.
