Probably the same reason Crunchyroll is on a God Ray spree.

I don’t like defending Crunchyroll but the Manji censorship isn’t their fault. According to Crunchyroll’s French Twitter account, they’re prohibited from making any changes to the materials they get given from Japan.

Ideally, the Manji should be kept intact on the legal streaming version. If they’re going to hide the Manji then the Japanese licensors should think of other ways to keep the Manji symbol hidden (no idea how) as apparently some characters were cut out from the legal streaming version of the latest episode...

I mean, obviously they're not censoring it, that would be beyond their capabilities as a streaming service. But considering their involvement in the production I find it very difficult to believe that they weren't the ones requesting the censorship in the first place.

As I said in the series review thread, it would have been so much easier to just slap on a note that says "hey, that thing there is not a swastika, don't get bent out of shape"...

About your first point, are Crunchyroll on the production committee for this show? I know they're over-promoting it but I haven't heard about them being on the production committee.

I agree with your second point. Maybe a message before the beginning of the episode would be sufficient? I know Kodansha's English release includes a translation note for the Manji.

Tokyo Revengers is under the Crunchyroll Originals label, so they are part of the production commitee, yes.

Please can you send me a link or screenshot to confirm this? I’m on the series main page and I can’t find the ‘Crunchyroll Originals’ label.

In further defense for CR if what you are saying is true, I still don't think CR made the decision on censoring the manji sign if they are personally going out of their way saying they didn't do it even if they're on production committee.

In the two tweets linked above they only said they're not allowed to "edit or retouch" the episodes ("Il nous est formellement interdit d’éditer ou retoucher les épisodes.") that is, to mess with the materials they receive for streaming. They don't mention anything about how the censorship happened in the first place.

It doesn't show up here. The trailer thumbnail doesn't say "Crunchyroll Originals" even though others do.
so idk

The only way they'd be the cause of the censor is if they were on the production committee and even the would require a very big say in it, considering Muse Asia are apparently also airing a censored version.
