Magikarp's Official Love Song Gets Dance Video

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Love it or hate it, the Asian carp Pokémon known as Magikarp got its own official song last year. The "I Love Koiking" song showcases all of the fish's faults and weaknesses, but it is ultimately an ode to everything that makes Magikarp special. The official Pokémon website added a page on Friday that features a dance version of the song. The song's original animated music video is four minutes long, but three young performers dance for only two minutes in this version.

The fishy yet talented dancers in the video are Shigeharu, Noa, and Yua. Style of the Source. dance school instructor Kana provided the choreography. Kana said rhythm is not most important when doing the dance. She recommended, "make your hands into fish fillets and do a big shake. Shake your lower back like Magikarp is splashing. Shake, shake, and when the dance is over, you can become Magikarp."

The dance's official web page has a full explanation of the choreography with visuals.

The video retains KoikinGO's original music. Ryōsuke Aoike again directed and animated the video at his studio Fever Creations.

Although Magikarp is Pokémon's least effective monster, the fish has been getting some extra attention recently. A teaser website for the Hanero! Koiking (Splash! Magikarp) smartphone game for iOS and Android devices launched earlier this month. The Yokohama Kurikoan taiyaki (fish-shaped cake) shop released custard-filled Magikarp sweets last month. A Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon player reported beating the game with a single Magikarp in November.
